When I think about the career advice that I have given throughout the years, the majority of the time I use the chess game in my story.

 

A chess games resembles a career journey with a clear career plan, because you know what your ultimate goal is, and each step you take should take you closer to where you want to be -- regardless of the obstacles that come your way.

 

If you don't have a career plan written down...why not?  You are worth it.

Throughout our careers we need to be consistently asking ourselves:

 

1.  Where am I now?  (In relation to my career goal & next career ladder step)

2.  Where do I want to be?  What does success look like?  Why is it important to me?

3.  How do I get there?  Am I taking steps in the right direction?

 

Asking these questions have helped me stay on track and risk getting derailed from achieving my goals.
