SEL DATA GUIDE

SEL DATA GUIDE | Data Management for SEL | Scoop.it
Steve Whitmore's insight:
While this guide seems pretty much a sales pitch for their systems, it does begin to ask the question about how are schools collecting SEL data and for what purposes.

Free Technology for Teachers: How to Create a Progress Tracker With Google Forms and Sheets

Free Technology for Teachers: How to Create a Progress Tracker With Google Forms and Sheets | Data Management for SEL | Scoop.it
Last week I wrote about using Google Forms and a pivot table in Google Sheets to create reading logs and other progress trackers. Over the weekend I received a lot of emails from folks asking various clarifying questions on how to use the pivot table functions. To answer those questions I recorded the following tutorial video. Watch the video to learn how you can create a progress tracker with a combination of Google Forms and a pivot table in Google Sheets. This method is a good one to use if you want your students or a teacher's aide to record progress through a Google Form.
Steve Whitmore's insight:
This video shows how to use Pivot Tables in Google Forms.  This is a good way to compile or group a student's data together when you have multiple students on one sheet.  Thanks @rbyrne

Documentation - Awesome Table Support

Documentation - Awesome Table Support | Data Management for SEL | Scoop.it
If you’re not familiar with Awesome Table as a whole, check out their site. They have created some pretty powerful tools and add-ons that pair with Google Sheets to make filtering and finding data a breeze. In fact, I use Geocode by Awesome Table (a Sheets add-on) for my Classroom Bridges Find a Classroom page to display the map along with the searchable database. Okay, back to Advanced Summary… Advanced Summary automatically creates an Awesome Table database of Form responses. When you set it up, you create any search filter that you want. I do an integration audit for districts at work, which is essentially a large survey about how teachers are using technology in their instruction. I use this add-on to set up a searchable database, to filter by school, grade level or content area. As a coach, this is invaluable information that I get in a few seconds instead of the time it would take me to set up a pivot table for each question. Advanced Summary by Awesome Table is installed and configured in a Google Form.
Steve Whitmore's insight:
This looks promising for a little more advanced sorting and sifting using Google Forms.

Of course, the playlist will be updated as I create more videos about Google Forms.

Could You Use Prezi to Display Data?

The best prezi of January is... (drumroll, please)... David Epstein's Small Town Folks Have a Better Shot at the Big Time. We love this one because it makes even large chunks of data feel engaging, memorable, and easy to understand. Take a look and get inspired for your next presentation.

Easier Data Interpretation and Visualization in Google Sheets

Easier Data Interpretation and Visualization in Google Sheets | Data Management for SEL | Scoop.it
Interpreting data from a spreadsheet can feel a bit overwhelming to a lot of students. That's why I'm excited about Google's latest update to Google Sheets. Last week Google added a new feature to make data visualization and interpretation easier than ever. Now when you open the Explore feature in Google Sheets you can simply type in a request for a chart to be displayed based on the data in the sheet. You can also make a simple request for something like the mean or median value of a column.
Steve Whitmore's insight:
Google keeps making data management easier.   This is something that should be tried with your Google Forms.
