Facebook Will Soon Let Brands Target Ads at Entire Families or Specific People Within Households

Facebook Will Soon Let Brands Target Ads at Entire Families or Specific People Within Households | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

While brands have been buying ads for niche audiences on Facebook for years, they’ll soon be able to target ads down to the specific household.

Just in time for the holiday-planning season, the social network is introducing a new household audience feature that will let brands direct ads to entire families or to specific people within a household. The tool, which the company announced today, could help aim ads at people who influence purchasing decisions and other ads to the people making the actual purchases.

Here’s how it works: Brands can select a source audience—a custom audience uploaded to Facebook that represents their customers based on an email list, for instance—and then turn on the household audience feature to reach not just the person they’re targeting, but also other people in the same household....

Do Men Use Facebook Differently Than Women?

Do Men Use Facebook Differently Than Women? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Facebook is all about connecting with others. Your connections are called “friends” whether you actually know them in real life or not. Men and women both friend others on the network, but they’re very different in how they do it.

Social media has become ubiquitous. It seems like everyone has a Facebook or Twitter account these days. It’s actually more common to hear some say, “Message me on Facebook,” than it is to hear them say, “call me” or “email me”. Social networks have become our online homes where we interact and communicate with friends and family, as well as with businesses that we patronize.

It’s a social world out there, but there are some striking differences between how different people use those social networks, particularly when comparing the different ways that men and women use Facebook...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Vive la difference but use it to your advantage in content marketing.

Facebook To Collect Brand-Sponsored Content Data | Ryan Skinner | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

An announcement late last week by the Facebook media team may have been overlooked by many marketers, but it has intriguing ramifications.

Facebook announced that it would effectively allow any organization with a verified page to publish brand-sponsored content without asking Facebook for explicit permission first, provided that content was tagged to the brand. They said:

"Today we're updating our branded content policy to enable verified Pages to share branded content on Facebook. Along with changes to our branded content policy and ads policy, we're offering a new tool that makes it easy for publishers and influencers to tag a marketer when they publish branded content. Publishers and influencers must use this tag for all branded content shared on Facebook."

What does it mean?...

90% of Facebook's daily active users access it via mobile | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Facebook just released financial results for Q4 of 2015, and one number starts out in particular: 934 million mobile daily active users (DAUs).

Sure, 0.9 billion might not sound quite as impressive as the 1.04 billion total daily users, but we already knew the company had passed the billion milestone in early November.

There were 894 million mobile DAUs at the time, which means the company has added 40 million more mobile users per day since November, and it will very likely cross 1 billion mobile DAUs sometime this year.

Meanwhile, the company is also slowly encroaching on the 2 billion monthly active users (MAUs) mark – three were 1.59 billion MAUs in December, or 14 percent more than the same time in 2014. Of those, 1.44 came from mobile, an increase of 21 percent, once again showing the quicker growth in the mobile sector....

Opening Up Instant Articles to All Publishers

Opening Up Instant Articles to All Publishers | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

We’re excited to announce that on April 12th at Facebook’s F8 conference, we will be opening up the Instant Articles program to all publishers—of any size, anywhere in the world. To date, we’ve been working with a few hundred publishers around the world to build an incredibly fast and immersive reading experience for people on Facebook. While we were getting feedback and making improvements to Instant Articles, in parallel we’ve been building the tools to open up Instant Articles more broadly.

We built Instant Articles to solve a specific problem—slow loading times on the mobile web created a problematic experience for people reading news on their phones. This is a problem that impacts publishers of all sizes, especially those with audiences where low connectivity is an issue. With that in mind, our goal from the beginning was to open up Instant Articles to all publishers and we’re excited to be able to do that in a way that makes it fast and easy for all publishers to reach their audiences on Facebook....
