'The audience there is huge': A guide to the most popular publisher Facebook video hacks - Digiday

'The audience there is huge': A guide to the most popular publisher Facebook video hacks - Digiday | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

When Helen Havlak, engagement editor at The Verge, looks to the future, she sees video — and Facebook. Last year, the Verge’s video views overtook its pageviews. This year, she expects the tech site to more than double the number of videos it produces this year. “Video right now is the only way to build a Facebook page,” she said. “The audience there is huge.”

Publishers are all trying to become video producers, tantalized by the prospect of lucrative video ad rates and exposure on Facebook, where publishers have a better chance of getting their content seen by posting video than they do photos and text links. Media companies uploaded 931,000 social videos to Facebook in the first quarter of 2017, an increase of 109 percent year over year, according to Tubular Labs (measuring across 2,000 media companies).

But producing video is time-consuming and expensive, which is why, for better or for worse, they’re turning to various hacks. Here’s a guide to some of the most common tactics. We’ll let you decide if they’re brilliant or despicable....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

How to Sell Your Products on Facebook

How to Sell Your Products on Facebook | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

According to AmeriCommerce, Facebook accounts for 60% of all social traffic driven to retail sites; however people don't really log on to Facebook to make purchases. People go on Facebook to connect with others, so the real trick is figuring out how to connect those people with your content, and consequently your products.

Did you know that you can sell your e-commerce products directly on Facebook? The world's largest social media network offers a simple and effective platform for online sales. And with its massive user base of 1.7 billion monthly users, it's incredibly effective.

To get started, you'll first need to create your Facebook Page. Unlike personal profiles, Pages are intended specifically for commercial purposes, with the ability for users to “like” them. To create a Facebook Page, simply visit https://www.facebook.com/pages/create/ and follow the on-screen instructions.

After setting up your Facebook Page, you can sell your e-commerce products by using a compatible app. There are more than a dozen different e-commerce store apps for Facebook that are designed for this purpose. Once installed, they'll automatically pull product listings from your e-commerce site, posting them directly on your Facebook Page. This means you'll only need to update your website anytime a product is added, removed or otherwise changed, as the app automatically mirrors what happens on your site....

The amount of people marketing directly to consumers on social media has gone up exponentially over the past year, and rightfully so. Over 1.3 billion people log into Facebook alone every month, according to Facebook’s last earnings call. That’s a whopping 14% of the earth’s population – so why not market to them on social?

Below, I have put together a list of the top 10 campaigns launched in 2014 with the help of some designers and other analysts according to specifically picked categories to best benefit you....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Facebook can add huge impact to your marketing results when it's done right. Great lessons.

This article is extremely insightful on how to successfully run a social media marketing campaign. This takes ten highly successful ideas that worked out extremely well. The idea to model your campaign off of someone else's previous success is not a bad one. Innovation is key however, so when reading these articles I try to think of additional things I could add to these existing ideas. If 14% of the world is on Facebook think about how many people are on Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, and thats just to name a few platforms. Social media marketing is the new wave more people in my age group use social media to get their updates then the television.

How Facebook's Instagram integration could rock the industry | Inside Facebook

How Facebook's Instagram integration could rock the industry | Inside Facebook | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

According to John McDermott at Digiday, Instagram is conducting a test (yes, for now it’s just a test) with Mercedes-Benz that allows them to target Facebook users who previously saw one of its Instagram ads. While this development is eye-opening in and of itself, as it gives hints into Facebook plans on returning their $1B investment, it also shows Facebook’s commitment to transforming how advertising not only can coexist with social media, but thrive and break into new levels of adoption.

What stands out the most to me is how inherent behavioral characteristics seen on both Facebook and Instagram are being aligned with their natural fit in the conversion funnel. As noted by McDermott, Instagram’s product naturally promotes behavior more conducive to the top of the funnel, where brand awareness comes into play. If Instagram is committed to preserving the user experience that allowed them to break 200 million users, it behooves them to preserve this characteristic of their product and not to “forcefully” incorporate more direct-response elements like call-to-action buttons, etc....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Marketing alert: Digital marketers are used to assimilating platform updates and advancements into their ad campaigns, but there could be a sea change on the horizon.

John H Drew Jr.'s curator insight, August 14, 2014 2:56 PM

Facebook has just finished a deal to acquire mobile photo sharing app Instagram for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock. Instagram will remain an independently branded standalone app that’s separate from Facebook, but the services will increase their ties to each other. The transaction should go through this quarter pending some standard closing procedures.

Last year, documents for a standalone Facebook mobile photo sharing app were attained by TechCrunch. Now it seems Facebook would rather buy Instagram which comes with a built-in community of photographers and photo lovers, while simultaneously squashing a threat to its dominance in photo sharing.

At 27 million registered users on iOS alone, Instagram was increasingly positioning itself as a social network in its own right — not just a photo-sharing app. And it was clear that some users were doing more of the daily sharing actvities on Instagram rather than Facebook’s all-in-one mobile apps, which had to be cluttered with nearly every feature of the desktop site.

Facebook is not a platform for ‘hard sell’People perceive Facebook as a platform when they share their stories, jokes, videos and generally relax. Answer. Sgt. Joe Friday from Dragnet used to say “All we know are the facts, ma’am.” And the facts tell us that Facebook is a bad place to execute your B2B marketing strategy. Facebook is a great social media platform to the message and engage fans. However, mostly for B2C brands. Many B2B brands and their marketing managers are getting a very low ROFI – Return On Facebook Investment because they do not know all the facts!...

A useful piece on Facebook and B2B.  It can be tempting for small businesses to just jump on the band wagon and throw themselves into social networks hoping that something sticks.

Facebook can seem like an obvious choice because of its size.  This is a good reminder to think about how people use Facebook and whether they are the right people, in the right frame of mind to engage with in relation to what you are offering.

What is it that makes Facebook Live a success story? I guess it is because of the amount of date coming out of various studies and research, which in turn is being used by different brands and businesses. The provision for video viewing has boosted its viewership statistics. It is high time we introduced videos on our blogs and webpages too, as studies show how integration of video has increased hits and views! This is an important lesson for content marketers obviously!

Facebook To Collect Brand-Sponsored Content Data | Ryan Skinner | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

An announcement late last week by the Facebook media team may have been overlooked by many marketers, but it has intriguing ramifications.

Facebook announced that it would effectively allow any organization with a verified page to publish brand-sponsored content without asking Facebook for explicit permission first, provided that content was tagged to the brand. They said:

"Today we're updating our branded content policy to enable verified Pages to share branded content on Facebook. Along with changes to our branded content policy and ads policy, we're offering a new tool that makes it easy for publishers and influencers to tag a marketer when they publish branded content. Publishers and influencers must use this tag for all branded content shared on Facebook."

Research: Facebook Drives Sales, Impacts Your Bottom Line

Research: Facebook Drives Sales, Impacts Your Bottom Line | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

I have to admit that the inspiration for this post came from something one of my clients reported their Facebook rep told them --- that Facebook is not a platform for driving sales.  It's all about buying impressions for your brand but it's not a place where users want to engage with brand or consume their content so it shouldn't be considered as a sales driver.

My reaction was along the lines of: Wait…WHAT?  Is that how they're selling ads these days?  And people are actually buying them?

Shouldn't the ultimate goal of any marketing campaign be to drive the business's bottom line -- otherwise, why invest a dime?  Sure, tracking direct, measureable sales from social channels is much more difficult than from other digital platforms like banner ads that drive to an e-commerce site or emails that include a unique and trackable coupon code that consumers have access to when they're in the checkout line. But if Facebook doesn't ultimately impact your business's bottom line, why are brands still investing on the platform?...

MediaPost Publications Who Cares If Facebook Becomes A Teenage Wasteland? 10/31/2013 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

So last night, minutes after the Boston Red Sox had handily defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, my husband went on Facebook, and saw a status update from our son – the kid whose profile picture is of him sitting on a couch (in real life!) with World Series MVP David Ortiz. And it proclaimed, “2013 WORLD CHAMPION BOSTON RED SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.”

My husband then turned to me and asked the central question concerning modern-day Facebook usage: “Should I ‘Like’ it?”

I advised him not to. Nothing spoils a teenager’s World Series ecstasy faster than a father “Liking” his post about it. And that, friends – Facebook or not – helps explain why Facebook stock rode highs and lows yesterday upon release of its third quarter earnings.
