Anatomy of a Great LinkedIn Sales Message | HubSpot

Anatomy of a Great LinkedIn Sales Message | HubSpot | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

If you're using LinkedIn for sales correctly, you won't insert an ask into your initial invitation to connect. It's only after the prospect accepts your personalized connection request and you've diligently observed their behavior on the network that you can follow up with a meeting proposal.

But just like cold sales emails, there's a right way and a wrong way to write a LinkedIn message.

Whether you're sending an InMail or a good old-fashioned message, look to the following template as a guide.

Let's dig into the nine components....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

If you're pitching your prospects via LinkedIn messages, you're doing it wrong. Here's how to do it right.

3 Secrets to Business Insider's Success on LinkedIn - MediaShift

3 Secrets to Business Insider's Success on LinkedIn - MediaShift | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

As LinkedIn regulars know, LinkedIn isn’t just for job searches – it’s for news.

Over the last few years, it has become clear that people are posting – and reading – more news on the platform. In fact, according to a recent Pew Research survey, nearly 20 percent of LinkedIn’s audience uses it to access news.

At Business Insider, we’re seeing this translate into a growing audience, increased referral traffic and an opportunity to interact with users who are among our most loyal and engaged.

For us, LinkedIn is part of a multi-platform (distributed) approach to content. It is no surprise given the makeup of our readership – the “next generation of business leaders” – that LinkedIn is among our top sources of social referral traffic.

Furthermore, each of our three brands, Business Insider, Tech Insider and Insider, has developed a strong presence on the platform.

Here are a few of the key reasons why Business Insider performs so well on LinkedIn...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

How to find success publishing on LinkedIn like Business Insider.

Linkedin is apparently developing into a force to reckon with. With time we see more and more business leaders turning to it for information and news. But then, it is not just business leaders, but professionals too who are turning to Linkedin for news on latest developments in respective subject areas!

5 Best Practices for Publishing Content to LinkedIn | Cision

5 Best Practices for Publishing Content to LinkedIn | Cision | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

When you’re planning your content strategy in 2016, one tactic that most likely will come up is to publish long form content to LinkedIn. The numbers supporting this are increasingly compelling:

Users posted about 130,000 posts per week on LinkedIn in 2015
More than any other social network, most people believe there is an opportunity to establish professional thought leadership on LinkedIn through content
LinkedIn’s user demographics are uniquely positioned for targeted content distribution (discussed a little later)
Of course, relative to WordPress (3.6 million posts per week) and other content platforms LinkedIn is still pretty small. So, in this post I want to explore five best practices that can help communication professionals and content marketers optimize their content for LinkedIn....

The new Pulse app uses your LinkedIn connections to show you what to read

That’s why LinkedIn is releasing a vastly redesigned version of the Pulse news reader app (out today for iOS and Android) that it purchased back in 2013. Akshay Kothari, co-founder (and now LinkedIn project manager) of Pulse, said that in the first three years, the company made tons of content deals to get as many top publishers as it could on board, and it grew to 30 million users in that time — but that wasn’t enough to thrive as users transitioned to mobile.

"One missing piece of the puzzle was identity," Kothari says. "We didn’t know who our users were, and that was the key thing to start making smart [content] recommendations."...

2 Charts That Prove the Importance of Custom LinkedIn Requests

2 Charts That Prove the Importance of Custom LinkedIn Requests | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Sending generic LinkedIn requests -- we all do it from time to time. I'm certainly guilty of it.

Maybe you're in a rush. Maybe you're lost for words. Maybe you think the recipient of the request won't care. Hey, it's not like "I'd like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn" is offensive. What's the harm?

But as it turns out, generic LinkedIn requests can take a drastic toll on how the recipient views you. We all knew this from anecdotal stories, but now there's hard data to prove the damaging effect.

HubSpot's survey report "Is Social Selling Creepy?" shows that buyers and consumers react quite differently to a generic request than a customized one. Just look at the following two charts:...

Generic pitches on any social media, especially LinkedIn, are poor practice. Enough said!

LinkedIn Is Making All LinkedIn Groups Private Starting Oct. 14

LinkedIn Is Making All LinkedIn Groups Private Starting Oct. 14 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

On Oct. 14, the company will start unveiling those updates, rolling out revamped Groups on the desktop and a standalone iOS app. (An Android app is also in the works.) The app will offer push notifications for Group conversations.

The changes, reported first by Venture Beat, are aimed at improving the quality of conversation within a feature that many complain is often filled with spam and self-promotion. LinkedIn says the changes were made after studying internal data and soliciting feedback from thousands of users. The general sentiment: Make Group controls simpler and tighten the reins on membership.

The biggest change — the one that LinkedIn believes will make a qualitative difference — is that all Groups are being made private; only Group members will be able to see the contents of conversations, and only members will be allowed to contribute. LinkedIn also won’t allow search engines to crawl the discussions, another key, it believes, to providing a trusted private space for people to communicate....

Don’t Send Another Cold Message on LinkedIn Until You Read This

Don’t Send Another Cold Message on LinkedIn Until You Read This | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

There are many advocates of using a mutual LinkedIn connection as the basis of reaching out to a prospect, but I think the process in practice is flawed. There are far more direct ways to get into a conversation with a prospect with far better results.

To recap what the LinkedIn connection outreach process typically looks like:

-  Build a list of prospects you want to talk to.

-  Mine their profiles for mutual connections.

-  Email the mutual connection and ask them if you could use their name in a message to your prospect, or even ask them to make the recommendation themselves.

-  Send an email to the prospect saying you have a shared contact that trusts you, and therefore the two of you should talk.

I have tested this extensively. I’ve had some successes and quite a few failures too. After reflecting a bit, there are three main reasons I’d suggest this is no longer an effective strategy....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Sales prospecting on LinkedIn is no longer an effective strategy unless you change your strategy.
