...The business side of Facebook boomed in the personality of a Facebook brand page. This serves as the go-to social marketing move for every brand out there, no matter how big or small. Imagine posting your latest marketing pitch in real time and being able to target your consumers by using insight provided on your Facebook brand page.

I recently watched a tutorial video from Hootsuite that featured Jason Li. It was all about how you can build a strong, effective Facebook brand page. Let me share with you the things I learned after watching this video. These four steps may sound cliche to some people, but as the old saying goes “the simplest answer is usually the right one.” Allow me to discuss this briefly. I would love to hear your suggestions for building a strong Facebook brand page....

How a shipping company earned 650,000 Facebook fans in a year | PR Daily

How a shipping company earned 650,000 Facebook fans in a year | PR Daily | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
A look at how Maersk's social media manager, operating solo, engages fans on 10 social networks without bottom-line sales or gimmicks. He just tells stories.

When Jonathan Wichmann's boss at worldwide shipping company Maersk Line told him that the company was approaching a point of being ready to dive into social media a little more than a year ago, the two agreed that it would face some difficulties that companies that mainly communicate with the public might not.

"You can't fake it," Wichmann says.

Wichmann was a consultant for the company at the time. After joining Maersk full-time, Wichmann stepped up to handle everything virtually single-handedly.

In the year since that initial meeting, the company has accrued 650,000 Facebook fans and won awards for the social media campaign of the year and best community presence at the European Digital Awards. Maersk pulled that off in such a short time with what Wichmann calls an "insourcing" approach....

Concept shows how good Facebook could look with a clever redesign | memeburn

Concept shows how good Facebook could look with a clever redesign | memeburn | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

While there’s always an outcry anytime Facebook changes anything, the essential structure of the social networking site hasn’t really radically altered over the years. The biggest change to data was Timeline, but if user interface designer Fred Nerby had his way, those updates would seem like nothing more than a tiny tweak.

Nerby decided to create a mockup of what Facebook could look like — on desktop or tablet — and posted the concept to his Behance profile. It features a more fluid, grid-like layout, greater emphasis on photos and a close friends panel which would allow you to cut out the rubbish updates and focus only on the people who are important to you. He also focused on creating options to hide clutter and expanded the dark messenger column in Facebook’s current apps to feature in other areas, like profile pages.

Nerby said he aimed to create a better understanding between user content and how it is displayed...

50% of Consumers Value a Brand's Facebook Page More Than Its Website [INFOGRAPHIC] | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
If you're debating the power of social media for branding, here's more proof that it matters.

About 50% percent of consumers think a brand’s Facebook page is more useful than a brand’s website, a new study suggests.

Market research company Lab42 — which surveyed 1,000 social media users about how they interact with brands on Facebook — found that consumers are viewing a brand’s Facebook presence as more important than ever.

In fact, about 82% of respondents said Facebook page is a good place to interact with brands. But one of the top reasons to follow a brand on Facebook is to print coupons and discounts. The study revealed that 77% of those who “Like” a brand on Facebook have saved money as a result.

Consumers (73%) also noted that they have no issue with un-Liking a brand on the site if they post too often.

For a full look at how a brand’s Facebook presence is viewed and valued, check out the infographic from Lab42 below....

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said several encouraging things when he spoke at a tech conference yesterday. One thing he didn't address, however, is the rate at which Facebook's desktop usage is declining in its most mature market--the U.S.

Zuckerberg also didn't comment on another ominous Facebook trend: The usage declines are most pronounced among those who were once Facebook's most devoted users: Young people.

Lots of young people have decided Facebook isn't cool anymore, and they're abandoning it in droves

When Is The Best Time To Post To Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest And Google+? | AllTwitter

When Is The Best Time To Post To Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest And Google+? | AllTwitter | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...So, when is the best time to post? And is it the same for every social network?

RadiumOne’s Po.st examined the social sharing data from more than 10,000 publishers, reaching four main conclusions:

1. There are two peak sharing times during the day – 10 a.m. through noon and 8 p.m. through 10 p.m.
2. If you’re looking for clicks, the worst time to share an article is between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
3. Sharing and clickbacks remain consistent from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
4. The hours between noon and 2 p.m. see the most shares with the highest clickback rates.

The study also revealed a disconnect between the best times to post to each social network, which are as follows:

Twitter: 1 p.m.
Facebook: 5 p.m.
Pinterest: 11 p.m.
Google+: 10 a.m.

Facebook Teaming Up With Television to Become Your News Service | The Daily Beast | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Facebook is increasingly trying to get into the news business through the back door.

No longer content to hook up friends with other friends, the company is pursuing its own hookups—with television networks that can provide a steady flow of topical information to its massive base of customers.

But analysts say there’s more to these joint ventures. With traditional media struggling to keep an audience and Facebook facing continuing issues with its sagging stock price and the need to retain users, the partnerships might be less a new-media tool and more a means of survival.

Mark Zuckerberg’s company has cut four separate partnerships with media organizations this year. In January, NBC and Facebook held a joint GOP primary debate in New Hampshire. During the primaries, Politico partnered with Facebook to mine user data to analyze voter behavior. Earlier this month, CNN joined Facebook to create an “I’m voting” app and conduct state-by-state research for the fall campaign. Two days later, the social network announced a similar partnership, with NBC Sports, for Olympics coverage....
