PR 2015: Top 100 Influencers & Brands – Onalytica

PR 2015: Top 100 Influencers & Brands – Onalytica | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
At Onalytica we have been looking closely at the transformation of PR as we know it. Our vision is to evolve media relations into influencer relations professionals by managing relationships with hundreds of key influencers rather than just journalists.

Think about the numerous analysts, politicians, bloggers, thought leaders, industry professionals, stakeholders and influential consumers that all have big audiences that you want to reach. Influencer relations is a truly essential part of modern PR (we also offer a B2B influencer relations platform for PR practitioners)

One of the most time consuming parts of influencer relations (or influencer marketing) is identifying the right thought leaders. What if you just wrote a new blog and you have no idea what influencers would be interested in your content?

We’re here to help! We built a new tool to do this. Before it took up to an hour to find 10-20 relevant influencers, now you can do it in less than a minute…

Science reveals what really increases Twitter followers | Poynter

Science reveals what really increases Twitter followers | Poynter | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The world of science has some new advice for people who want to increase their Twitter following, and it may sound something your mother used to say: If you don’t have anything nice to tweet, don’t tweet at all.

“Expressing negative sentiments in tweets is the second most harmful factor to growing a Twitter audience,” say researchers from the Georgia Institute of Technology. They speculate about why: “This might be because Twitter is a medium dominated by very weak social ties, and negative sentiment from strangers may be unpleasant or uncomfortable for a potential new follower to see.”...

The Power of Real-Time Advertising: Twitter Scores Big Time in Super Bowl

The Power of Real-Time Advertising: Twitter Scores Big Time in Super Bowl | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Lessons learned from Oreo on how improvisation, combined with Big Data, can cut through the media clutter. While there will always be debate about which TV spots deliver the most ROI, one thing is certain: no matter how much you've planned ahead, and no matter how deeply integrated your campaign may be, there's no better (or cheaper) way to cut through the clutter than to improvise.

The idea of improvisational marketing is a dangerous one to many of the big brands that advertise around the Super Bowl, for obvious reasons. Even the slightest misstep or off-color remark can go viral and forever damage a brand within minutes. But responding to events in real-time, as they unfold, and weaving your brand into the conversation in a way that entertains and supports your brand proposition, can be the most powerful marketing of all. Sunday's power outage provided the perfect surprise for brands to pounce on creatively.

Tide shrewdly tweeted, "We can't get your #blackout. But we can get your stains out." In a dig at their luxury car rival, Audi tweeted, "Sending some LEDs to the @MBUSA Superdome right now..." At Mondelēz International, our Oreo brand team and their agency partners sat together in a war room and came up with this gem, which has since been re-tweeted more than 15,000 times....

Four Reasons Why Twitter Should Be Used By All Small Businesses | Simply Zesty

Four Reasons Why Twitter Should Be Used By All Small Businesses | Simply Zesty | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
According to a survey from the Wall Street Journal, Twitter has fallen out of favour with small businesses, preferring other channels like LinkedIn and YouTube.

Despite it being the world’s fastest growing social platform at the moment, it seems that Twitter isn’t getting a lot of love from small businesses. A recent survey ran by the Wall Street Journal and Vistage International found that six out of ten small-business owners say they believe social media tools are valuable to their company’s growth. So far, so unsurprising, but what was particularly interesting wasn’t the fact that LinkedIn topped the survey, 41% said that it had the most potential to help their company, but only 3% of those surveyed felt that Twitter could do the same.

The Wall Street Journal’s survey is worth looking at if you want an idea of how social media is used among small businesses in the U.S. (as well as having some nice interactive graphics to look at)....

A nice counterpoint on how Twitter CAN help business.

More than half of U.S. business to business (B2B) marketers plan to increase spending on their social media budget in 2013, reveals a new study.

56 percent of respondents to BtoB Magazine‘s 2013 Outlook: Marketing Priorities And Plans survey said that their marketing spend on channels such as Twitter and Facebook will rise this year, with social media being favoured above both search (52.5 percent) and mobile (a surprisingly low 35.5 percent).

Website development (70.1 percent) and the ever-reliable email marketing (61.9 percent) were the top digital marketing priorities....

I agree it's a surprise that marketers are not all over mobile. They'd better get mobile fast because their customers are way ahead!

Tell me you love me: use of 'favouriting' on Twitter soars | Econsultancy | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Do you favourite tweets on Twitter? Has your use of this feature increased over the last year?

If the answer is yes, then you are not alone.

A graph from Isaac Hepworth demonstrates exactly how favouriting on Twitter has increased over the last 12 months. It all stems from the major update to the platform Twitter released in December 2011....

It's interesting to note how a change like this from Twitter, albeit a fairly significant one, can begin to alter the way people use a network.

Favouriting increased. But, according to Twitter, it increased in a very specific way. It was often @-replies (i.e. messages that were only really intended to be seen by the recipient) that were being favourited more than more general tweets....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

It's an interesting look at the "favoriting" trend as well as a reminder that it can be very useful for curation as well as letting someone know you liked their tweet.

Link building is easily the most groaned about aspect of SEO. It's hard, it's rarely scalable, it takes a ridiculous amount of time, and frankly, our lives would all be better without it.

Unfortunately, link building will always be a part of SEO, no matter how much we complain about it. Still, you have to change the way you think about it, and this past week at SES Chicago, I didn't speak on link building: I spoke on relationship building.

In my session, I talked about how you can use social media instead of email to start building that relationship with people. Twitter is one the easiest mediums for that, and with it comes a host of tools that you can use to help you search, qualify, and contact influencers in your niche. Here's that list of tools...

Vine: An Analysis of Twitter’s New Toy | Cisionblog

Vine: An Analysis of Twitter’s New Toy | Cisionblog | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

If you missed the social media news last week, Twitter launchedVine; a standalone IOS app allowing users to share 6-second video clips in an Instagram-esque way.  The Vine iPhone app has rocketed up to the 14th most downloaded free app; so many brands have begun to take notice.  With all the buzz, I decided to take a look at Vine’s engagement numbers over the weekend to see how many public tweets contained a Vine link, if use increased since launch and to determine what the major conversation themes were.

In order to pull all of the public tweets I searched for the term “vine.co” using the Cision Social Media Dashboard. This pulled all the tweets that contained the unique URL associated with a Vine video.  While this won’t give us every Vine video that was produced (not all content is shared publicly or on Twitter), it can be a nice indicator on how often and what content was shared.

As of this morning over 100,000 tweets were sent containing a Vine URL since the January 23rd  launch, when Twitter’s Dick Costello sent out a tweet of steak tartar.  As you can see from the graphic below the total amount of tweets containing a Vine link increased fairly drastically throughout the weekend with the coverage spiking on Saturday, Jan. 26 at noon, with over 11,000 tweets sent!...

What Happens When You Double Your Tweeting Frequency? | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Much has been written about how to maximize follower growth, interaction and click-through rates on Twitter; what days of the week to tweet and what time of day, as well as the structure and content of tweets themselves. However, few studies exists on the optimum volume and frequency of tweets. Assuming that best practices and etiquette are being followed, what impact can suddenly doubling the volume of tweets have on a business/organization account?

The Data

In September 2012, we increased the amount of scheduled tweets from 6 per day (seven days a week) to 12.

Using data gathered from Crowdbooster and Google Analytics, here is a comparison between a four-month period at 6 scheduled tweets per day and a four-month period at 12 scheduled tweets per day (data does not include replies and retweets)....

Tweeting is Believing? Analyzing Perceptions of Credibility on Twitter | iRevolution

Tweeting is Believing? Analyzing Perceptions of Credibility on Twitter | iRevolution | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

What factors influence whether or not a tweet is perceived as credible? According to this recent study, users have “difficulty discerning truthfulness based on con-tent alone, with message topic, user name, and user image all impacting judg-ments of tweets and authors to varying degrees regardless of the actual truth-fulness of the item.”

For example, “Features associated with low credibility perceptions were the use of non-standard grammar and punctuation, not replacing the default account image, or using a cartoon or avatar as an account image. Following a large number of users was also associated with lower author credibility, especially when unbalanced in comparison to follower count [...].” As for features enhan-cing a tweet’s credibility, these included “author influence (as measured by follower, retweet, and  mention counts), topical expertise (as established through a Twitter homepage bio, history of on-topic tweeting, pages outside of Twitter, or having a location relevant to the topic of the tweet), and reputation (whether an author is someone a user follows, has heard of, or who has an official Twitter account verification seal). Content related features viewed as credibility-enhancing were containing a URL leading to a high-quality site, and the existence of other tweets conveying similar information.”...

When Is The Best Time To Post To Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest And Google+? | AllTwitter

When Is The Best Time To Post To Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest And Google+? | AllTwitter | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...So, when is the best time to post? And is it the same for every social network?

RadiumOne’s Po.st examined the social sharing data from more than 10,000 publishers, reaching four main conclusions:

1. There are two peak sharing times during the day – 10 a.m. through noon and 8 p.m. through 10 p.m.
2. If you’re looking for clicks, the worst time to share an article is between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
3. Sharing and clickbacks remain consistent from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
4. The hours between noon and 2 p.m. see the most shares with the highest clickback rates.

The study also revealed a disconnect between the best times to post to each social network, which are as follows:

Twitter: 1 p.m.
Facebook: 5 p.m.
Pinterest: 11 p.m.
Google+: 10 a.m.
