6 Tips to Help Drive Awareness and Sales with Pinterest

6 Tips to Help Drive Awareness and Sales with Pinterest | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It’s no secret that Pinterest is one of the biggest sources of referral traffic on the Internet. And while increased traffic can help bloggers and media companies to sell more advertising, many businesses (especially e-commerce) use Pinterest to sell their products directly. For these businesses the goal is to convert traffic into paying customers.

That means making the sale.

When it comes to driving purchase-ready buyers, Pinterest comes with a lot of advantages. This is partly due to the longevity of the life of a single Pin (which sticks around in the Pinterest search engine for years) and partly due to the buying mindset and affluence of Pinterest users. For example, Shopify concludes that the typical Pinterest user spends $50 per purchase.

But to successfully convert Pinterest traffic to customers takes strategic planning. These tips for driving awareness and sales with Pinterest will help you out along the way....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Here are some key tips for driving awareness and sales with Pinterest.

Pinterest and TV Go Hand-in-Hand [Infographic] | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Here’s an interesting stat – according to a Pinterest survey of 2,500 Pinners (conducted in May this year), 45% of users are active on the app while watching TV.

That’s surprising – normally it’s Twitter that’s identified as the ultimate TV viewing companion in social, given its position as the home of real-time conversation, particularly around live events.

As it turns out, Pinnners, too, love to multi-screen:

“64% of our users tell us they pay more attention to what they’re doing on Pinterest than what they’re watching on TV—and 44% of them will engage with Pinterest for the show’s entirety, regardless of whether it’s on a commercial break or not.”...

How to Set Yourself Up for Success on Pinterest [Guide]

How to Set Yourself Up for Success on Pinterest [Guide] | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

While it doesn't get as much attention as some of the other social networks, Pinterest is definitely a platform all B2C brands need to consider. Why? Take a look at this graph from the recent Mary Meeker Internet Trends Report for 2016.

In comparison to other social networks, Pinterest users have very high purchase intent, they come to the platform to find new ideas for things to buy. And Pinterest is on a mission to capitalize on this - the platform has set itself an ambitious target to be generating $2.8 billion in annual revenue by 2018 – a big jump from the reported $169 million in revenue the platform generated in 2015. In order to reach that figure, Pinterest needs to make a series of moves, and this year, we’ve already seen them introduce new discovery options and ad capabilities to advance in that direction.

If you've never given Pinterest much thought, now might be the right time to get on board - here's an overview of how Pinterest works, what and how people are using it and the details you need to know to maximize your brand success on the platform....

Phase One: Massive increase in photo creation

Phase Two: The Rise of Image Centric Social Networks

Photos are becoming the “universal language”.1 The fastest growing social media networks are not surprisingly Facebook, Tumblr and Instagram.

Phase Three: Images become Interactive

Pinterest is one of the first platforms that allows you to interact with static images and Luminate’s image apps (which are used by more than 100 million consumers) is also an example.

How to Promote Pins Using Pinterest Ads Manager | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest has released a new set of advertising tools for small and medium sized businesses.

These tools give businesses new ways to promote their content and advertise on Pinterest. Around three-fourths of the content on Pinterest comes from businesses already and opening up their ads product to all SMBs feels like a great way to enable businesses to get the right content in front of the right people.

Pinterest users regularly save their favorite Pins (including adverts!) to their own boards, and as such, Promoted Pins generate lots of impressions and engagements as they get resurfaced time and time again. The data shows advertisers who use the Pinterest Ads Manager received an average of 20% more (free) clicks in the month after the start of a Promoted Pins campaign.

A Visual Guide to Pinterest

A Visual Guide to Pinterest | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest has slowly been building itself up as an advertising alternative to Google and Facebook over the past 12 months.

The company’s focus has historically been on building an engaged user base through its intuitive, visual interface. As a social network, it has always offered something a little different.

However, advertisers have been skeptical about whether Pinterest could ‘monetize’ this model, due to the nature of engagements users have and also the demographics that typically spend time on the site.

Those concerns have not been allayed altogether, but Pinterest has made some fascinating moves of late. They have launched a paid search partnership with Kenshoo, completely upgraded their visual search capabilities, and expanded their reach by adding a new Google Chrome extension.

Campbell’s Taps Into Pinterest Data To Soup Up Its Content Strategy | AdExchanger | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Consumer packaged goods brands like Campbell’s Soup are the epitome of content and commerce.

The company ladles up recipes and cooking tips through an online community, app and email newsletter called Campbell’s Kitchen. But socially distributed content increasingly is its main ingredient for success.

To boost content engagement across its owned-and-operated site and social channels, Campbell’s is beta testing a new tool called Muse developed by Pinterest marketing platform Ahalogy. Muse taps Facebook topic data through a partnership with DataSift and combines it with Ahalogy’s bank of category-level Pinterest data.

“Campbell’s Kitchen’s biggest audience is on Facebook right now, but Pinterest users tend to be younger and early adopters of new cooking methods,” said Sheila Miller, a senior manager for Campbell’s Kitchen.

Pinterest Is Working on a New 'Explore' Section for Publishers, Brands

Pinterest Is Working on a New 'Explore' Section for Publishers, Brands | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest is building a new media channel for publishers and brands to create videos and multimedia posts, according to advertisers familiar with the plans.

The Pinterest media section is similar in concept to how publishers work closely with Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, the advertising sources said speaking on condition of anonymity. The design and content would be uniquely Pinterest but it gives publishers and brands a more structured playground to share to the site.

There will be places for advertisers to buy into media sections, for now at least. A person familiar with Pinterest’s plans said the new channel’s ad offering will be pushed out initially as a test. Where the company takes it from there remains unclear....

Pinterest Tools For Marketers And Social Media Managers

Pinterest Tools For Marketers And Social Media Managers | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest is an emerging social media powerhouse that has not been included in most marketers’ and social media managers’ priority mediums compared to mainstays such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or Instagram. However, with its rapidly booming stats, that may soon change.

In a recent report by PewResearch, 31% of adult internet users are now using Pinterest, compared to 28% in September 2014. Of this figure, 44% are women and 16% are men. Also, those younger than 50 are 37% more likely to use Pinterest compared to the 22% likelihood of those aged 50 and older.

If that still does not convince social media managers and marketers of Pinterest’s rising status, perhaps this next set of data will.

As it turns out, from having been on the #4 spot of most used social media platforms (trailing behind Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) featured in PewResearch’s Demographics of Key Social Networking Platforms 2014 report, Pinterest has since then jumped to the #2 spot, right after the still un-dethroned top biller Facebook....

Pinterest should be a key part of your social marketing strategy given its rise in popularity and reach.
