Pinterest Is Working on a New 'Explore' Section for Publishers, Brands

Pinterest Is Working on a New 'Explore' Section for Publishers, Brands | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest is building a new media channel for publishers and brands to create videos and multimedia posts, according to advertisers familiar with the plans.

The Pinterest media section is similar in concept to how publishers work closely with Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, the advertising sources said speaking on condition of anonymity. The design and content would be uniquely Pinterest but it gives publishers and brands a more structured playground to share to the site.

There will be places for advertisers to buy into media sections, for now at least. A person familiar with Pinterest’s plans said the new channel’s ad offering will be pushed out initially as a test. Where the company takes it from there remains unclear....

Pinterest Pushing Deeper Into Ads - NYTimes.com

Pinterest Pushing Deeper Into Ads - NYTimes.com | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

A quick glance at the digital scrapbook Pinterest makes it seem like the anti-Facebook. It has no stream filled with friends’ faces and baby pictures, but rather a sprawling, colorful grid of recipes, photographs of clothes and a shopping list of presents to buy for loved ones.

Yet Pinterest wants to be like Facebook in one notable way: Soon some of the slick-looking photos on its site may be advertisements from the world’s biggest consumer brands — ads, Pinterest hopes, users actually want to see.

On New Year’s Day, the company plans to start selling ads on the site to marketers, sounding the call that Pinterest is open for business and that it wants to compete for ad dollars with the likes of Google, Twitter and Facebook....

You Can't Buy Pinterest Fame

You Can't Buy Pinterest Fame | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest updated its Acceptable Use Policy, condemning users who pay others to follow them or re-pin their images.

If you want to build your following on Pinterest, there's no easy shortcut.

That's the message Pinterest sent to users after the company updated itsAcceptable Use Policy late last week. The subtle changes to the policy now condemn users who pay others to follow them or re-pin their images. In other words, users can't buy new followers or shares.

"We recently updated our Acceptable Use Policy to simplify language and clarify our stance on a few things," a Pinterest spokesperson said in a statement given to Mashable. "We want Pinterest to be a place where people can be authentic and share the things that interest them most, so we now prohibit paying per Pin or follow."...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Changes to Pinterest policy may give some marketers heartburn. I recommend you have a very close lock at these changes so you are in compliance.

5 Reasons Pinterest’s Search Engine Is Better Than Google’s | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Pinterest is a lifestyle searching tool for millions of people.

People go on there with excited eyes to look for amazing recipes to cook for dinner that weekend, find ways to dress to the tens for a special date, or find creative educational materials to teach children with.

Millions of users turn to Pinterest to enhance their lifestyle. And they are doing so by using the search function on Pinterest. Here’s a fun fact.

Did you know that Google has a search engine just for recipes? It’s been around for years, but almost nobody I know uses it.

Instead, most people I know automatically go to Pinterest if they want to find recipes to try out.

Would You Rather be Social or Interesting? - Jeffbullas's Blog

Would You Rather be Social or Interesting? - Jeffbullas's Blog | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The “Interest Graph” is not the “Social Graph”. But what does that mean and why should you care?

Despite the rapid ascent of Interest-based platforms, such as Pinterest, Sulia, WeHeartIt and Wanelo, we rarely see dialogue about the Interest Graph except in a Social context. However, The Interest Graph and Social Graph are two fundamentally different infrastructures with different underlying assumptions for marketers.

Sure, they often overlap, but it’s time we come to appreciate their differences, so that we can be more effective marketers on a social web driven by people’s passions and interests. So should you be social or interesting?...
