Why Journalists Are Outranking Marketers in Search (And How We Can Compete)

Why Journalists Are Outranking Marketers in Search (And How We Can Compete) | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

But do content-driven brands skew closer to publications or are their marketing roots still showing? We analyzed 200 posts that ranked on page one of Google for terms related to the marketing industry that generate at least 500 monthly searches.

Of course, publishers, whether marketers or journalists, have direct control over only a handful of Google’s evolving ranking criteria, and the factors that impact search results shift by topic and keyword. For example, influencing page and domain authority is like steering an ocean liner: It’s doable, provided you’re not in a hurry. Thus, for the purposes of our analysis, we paid particular attention to the recency, content structure, and post quality -- factors largely within the publisher’s span of control (though because the weighting of each is constantly adjusted by machine-learning, we kept our analysis broad stroke and directional)....

Hubspot compares news sites with marketing sites and comes up with strategies and tactics that can help content marketers compete more effectively.

"It’s tempting to get distracted by speculation surrounding the latest SEO algorithm update, but remember that the core principles have gone largely unchanged. Content quality, depth, and freshness are still the pillars for effective search strategies while a strong distribution channel can help accelerate success."

Content Marketing in SEO – Infographic | SEO & Digital Marketing Blog - Abdul Malick

Content Marketing in SEO – Infographic | SEO & Digital Marketing Blog - Abdul Malick | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Basically, content marketing is the art of communicating with your customers and prospects without selling. It is non-interruption marketing. Instead of pitching your products or services, you are delivering information that makes your buyer more intelligent. The essence of this content strategy is the belief that if we, as businesses, deliver consistent, ongoing valuable information to buyers, they ultimately reward us with their business and loyalty. Nowadays people also look for the facts and useful information about the products and services that they find interesting instead of ads.

So engage your audience with unique & useful story/ information of your services or product.  Provide your information precisely not with bag of unnecessary stuffing of keywords. Make your content king in the marketing world and become a great Marketer....

How Much of Your Blog Post Do People Actually See?

How Much of Your Blog Post Do People Actually See? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...How to Write Ridiculously Persuasive Landing Pages is one of our best performing blog posts this year. (And it was published this month!)

Once again, popularity is no indication of user engagement. In fact, because this was a longer post, fewer people made it to the bottom than our previous example. This makes the slide-in CTA even more important, as if we’re not capitalizing on our best performing content, our strategy would have major holes in it....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Ever wonder how much of your blog posts your readers actually see? Check out this data to learn more. Great social marketing and optimization case studies. Highly recommended 9/10

Content Creators Ranking Checklist: How Quality Scores Influence

Content Creators Ranking Checklist: How Quality Scores Influence | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Scoring influence has never been so important, as brands, consumers, search engines, and social networks figure out ways to rise above the content clutter. It all started when everyone voted content king.

It goes like this: Content creators need to pay attention to emergent authorship, as Google, LinkedIn, and other media companies continue to focus on actual content creators versus an entity (business or website). Great content creators (that includes public relations professionals) and marketers recognize that original, engaging, and informative content by real authors may be the future of SERPs....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Content creators should still pay attention to authorship, as media companies are placing more focus on actual content creators versus an entity.

How To Get Your Content Linked To From Top-Tier Websites

How To Get Your Content Linked To From Top-Tier Websites | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...The most important stage of your content campaign is to identify a gap within your industry that needs to be filled. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel here; in fact, I often look at ways to build upon existing popular content first before even coming up with new concepts.

Here are a few questions that you need to ask yourself when conceptualising your new content:

  • What type of content performs well within your niche?
  • Who is producing this content, and where are they publishing it?
  • What is it that your target audiences are looking for?

To get an idea of what content works well within your niche, you can use a very handy free tool called BuzzSumo. BuzzSumo allows you to search through popular content based on a search query that you input. You can filter the content by type (i.e., article, video, infographic, etc.) and also by the number of social shares across each network....

The Ultimate Guide To SEO Content Creation In 2015 - NoHatDigital.com

The Ultimate Guide To SEO Content Creation In 2015 - NoHatDigital.com | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

I’ve been building SEO-driven, Adsense/Affiliate monetized sites for 4 years now. I’ve been through every Panda update and Penguin update. I've survived a lot of them, but I've been absolutely crushed by some of them as well. If getting crushed is how you learn, then I've learned a lot.

I started out building hundreds of microniche sites with content as cheap as $3/500 word article, to creating sites that received thousands of FB, Twitter, Reddit, and Stumble upon shares - even though my goal was solely to drive organic search traffic.

One article got over 100,000 likes on Facebook and millions of visitors. It cost me $30 to outsource and I made no effort to optimize it for social.

I don’t claim to be a content creation expert, but I’ve picked up a thing or two over the years, and this is the guide to SEO content creation I wish I had when I started....

How does Google judge quality content?

How does Google judge quality content? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Everybody talks about the need to provide quality content on your site if you want to rank well in searches. But how do search engines identify quality content?

Successive Google algorithm updates (culminating in the recent Panda 4.1) aim to refine results so that they match the intent of the search query and deliver the most comprehensive, accessible and well-written answer.

Put simply, Google (and other search engines) are always looking for genuine quality content, and are increasingly smart at finding (and dismissing) pages that try to game the system.

For example, Google’s Hummingbird algorithm restructure from last year enables it to better understand the meaning behind search queries as well as the semantics behind content.

So what should you focus on if you want to produce content that search engines will recognise as high quality? Here are five key factors that we have identified....

3 Google Tips For Improving Your Search Engine Ranking - Business 2 Community

3 Google Tips For Improving Your Search Engine Ranking - Business 2 Community | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Attracting buyers to your site through SEO is becoming harder, thanks to search ranking getting way smarter and more and more personalized to the searcher. So the question for B2B marketers is: How can you measure rank accurately if you know it’s going to be different for each person – based on where they are, their search history, and their activity on various Google apps?

For example, factors like your location if you have location services on (eg. by using Google Maps) and usage history (Google uses hints to your location even if you have disabled location services by looking at your past searches) can directly impact your search results. For many marketers keeping up with SEO best practices is hard and confusing. But there are some things you can do that do work. In fact, Google look favorably upon them (hint: they are NOT dodgy link buying tactics)….

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Guess what content marketing strategies work best? This chart says it all. This an excellent SEO blueprint.
