How to Get into Google News - Neil Patel

You don’t have to wait months or years to get high rankings in Google. Through Google News, you can instantly shoot up to page 1 of Google.

Now Google already gives you a set of guidelines, but here is what I found is effective:

1. You have to write news worthy content – if you are struggling to find news content you can go to Google Trends or any popular news site to see what’s hot.

2. Create a Google News Sitemap – through the Yoast SEO plugin you can create a sitemap. This way when you have news worthy content they will pick it up faster.

3. Your URL structure has to be unique – if you don’t have news related keywords within your URL you are less likely to rank. By having specific keywords you will shoot up to the top for news related queries.

In addition to that, follow the guidelines Google News gives and you will be fine.

The Battle for Traffic: Organic SEO vs. Social Media Marketing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
SEO and SMM are like pizza and cheese: you can get one without the other, but, believe me, it isn’t worth it.

Nowadays SEO cannot be effective without well-executed content curation. And that’s where social media kicks in — it helps you unlock untapped potential. Compared to other marketing channels, social media benefits SEO in unexpected ways. It’s not surprising that SEO and SMM have slowly become closely intertwined activities that all businesses want to take advantage of.

But how exactly can SEO and SMM work together? Do social media signals affect your site’s visibility in Google? I’ve been investigating this topic for quite a long time and here's what I’ve learned so far

2015 Online Marketing Industry Survey

2015 Online Marketing Industry Survey | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Let's dig in. Almost half (49%) of our 2015 respondents involved in search marketing were in-house marketers. In-house teams still tend to be small – 71% of our in-house marketers reported only 1-3 people in their company being involved in search marketing at least quarter-time. These teams do have substantial influence, though, with 86% reporting that they were involved in purchasing decisions.

Agency search marketers reported larger teams and more diverse responsibilities. More than one-third (36%) of agency marketers in our survey reported working with more than 20 clients in the previous year. Agencies covered a wide range of services, with the top 5 being...

Top 8 SEO Trends and Techniques for 2015

Top 8 SEO Trends and Techniques for 2015 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Organic SEO is still a leading strategy for digital marketing in 2015. Many of the SEO techniques we’ve been using for years are still worthy of our marketing dollars — blogging, social media, and inbound marketing — for example.

Yet, the way we look at these old methods may be a little different.

- Effective blogging requires more than just paraphrasing the news of the day, throwing in a few keywords, and linking to another site; you’ll need to become a proven “thought leader” and answer people’s most pressing questions.

- Social media will not just be a dumping grounds for blog posts, but a place where you look for prospects who are talking about your products or services and connect with them in real-time.

- Linking will focus on seeking quality, branded citations, rather than just throwing your URL down in the comments section of a blog.Today, we discuss 8 SEO trends to look out for as you build your marketing plan for 2015....

Mandy McEwen goes a little deeper hear then most about SEO for 2015.

1) Mobile is still the big topic.  Make sure your site is mobile responsive and can be seen on any phone or tablet with ease.

2) One High quality backlink is bettter than hundreds on non-relevant sites.  Want to see what your competitors are doing?  Use SEMrush.com to search the keywords and links your competitors are using to rank.

3) I am not sure I agree with Google not being the end all be all in SEO.  Until we get more traffic from the other search engines I think Google still is the one to worry about.

4) I believe exact match keyword ranking won't be as important as the ROI of having your site that ranks for that keyword making you money.  People are getting more detailed in there search and you.

5) Aim for more social engagement.  Put out great content that is optimized for your social media platform of choice.

6) We have been preaching using video for a while now and our company uses it for all our clients on a monthly bases.  Once the video is made make sure to optimize it to rank for the chosen topic.

7) Simplify your website to convert and give visitors a better experience.

8) Lastly don't overlook quality in your work.  It takes time to build and produce great content. Don't push out content just for the sake of it.

Yelp and a coalition of like-minded travel and shopping websites have created an elegant demonstration of the way they say Google biases search results in favor of Google's pages.

It's a Chrome browser extension that Yelp says strips Google+ pages from Google's search results, forcing the search engine to display only the "organic" results Yelp says Google would serve if it wasn't biased in favor of Google's own sites and links.

The device lets you compare Google's results with and without interference from Google+, the anti-Google coalition says. (We have a couple of screengrabs below demonstrating the difference.)...

CMO of DigitalRelevance Kevin Bailey talks about the importance of earned media links and content.Today’s digitally savvy PR professionals are adding organic search to their repertoire. This makes good sense because organic rankings are just another form of earned media—just acquired in a new way. For over a decade it’s been well known that search engine rankings are influenced mainly by two things: what a brand says about itself on its own website and what others say about it off of its site. The latter is often called off-site SEO and it’s the most heavily-weighted component of Google’s algorithm....

Google Did Not Just Kill PR Agencies

Google Did Not Just Kill PR Agencies | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Companies rely on PR firms for a variety of services and consulting ranging from strategy and message development to media relations and social media outreach to monitoring and reporting. Product launches, press conferences, event management and promotion, reputation and crisis management, media training, investor relations and of course content creation are all services provided by different PR agencies.

Press releases are most often at the top of the list of public relations content along with reports, white papers, newsletters, case studies, corporate website pages, newsrooms, blog posts, short form social media content and media from images to audio to video. To suggest that overly optimized press releases and other content will bring down the PR industry is simply a sensational headline.

It’s true, there are a lot of changes happening in the PR world right now and one area in particular that’s worth exploring risks and rewards involves the shift to native ads or as Google calls it, “commerce journalism”. I talked with Cara Posey about this recently and will likely post more about it here. But back to this business of optimized press releases killing PR agencies. Really?...
