I have followed Neil Patel for quite some time and have seen a noticeable jump in traffic to my blog. Ideally, rankings are dependent on SEO, use of appropriate keywords and the ability to produce interesting and varied content consistently.

We Analyzed 203,900 Data Points to Answer the Question: Do Keywords Matter?

We Analyzed 203,900 Data Points to Answer the Question: Do Keywords Matter? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Let me start with a basic statement. Keywords aren’t that important anymore.

How can I be so sure about this? Because the data tells me so. First, let’s look at an example.

In a recent study, we cracked the Hummingbird algorithm code wide open. We analyzed 9.93 million words of content, smashed them together, shook them up and came up some astonishing results. Our focus was to understand exactly how Hummingbird works and how it ranks websites based on their content.

Our study analyzed select sites within a narrow niche and discovered how they ranked comparatively in select topics.

The top-ranked blogs did not necessarily have high keyword saturation, keyword representation or lots of high-DA backlinks.

What did the top ranked blogs have, if not keywords or backlinks?

They had strong topic coverage, few gaps in the topics that they covered and comprehensive content within each of their chosen topic categories.

In other words, they had really strong content, instead of a really strong link profile....

For content marketers, content writers and PR pros, Neil Patel says there are more important things than keywords. Find out what they are.

Is guest blogging becoming risky?

Is guest blogging becoming risky? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

After Penguin hit a lot of sites hard last year, it seems many SEOs have turned to guest blogging for alternative methods of link-building....

It seems that Google is now taking a serious interest in guest blogging, so what are the risks for the bloggers and the sites hosting guest articles? I've been asking some SEO experts for their views on the potential risks and how to avoid them...

There has been plenty of talk about the dangers of guest blogging. Indeed, one of our own guest bloggers was contacted by Google, who pointed at a 'suspicious link' from this site. The link in question was in the author bio under a guest post. It has since become apparent that the reason for this suspicion was nothing to do with this blog or any links from it, but it was alarming to see our links being highlighted....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Great question and expert advice on guest blogging "risk".

Neil Patel shows why and how longer content delivers results.

donhornsby's curator insight, March 17, 2017 10:19 AM
In summary, there is no law that says your content must be a certain length in order to rank higher. A lot of content marketers spend a plenty of time creating content. And that’s good! But is length the only thing we should be targeting when we create this content? No. The data suggests that your content needs to have three characteristics: The content should be deep. The content should have comprehensive coverage. The content should be focused on the topic (keyword) you want to rank for. When you create content with those three characteristics, you might find yourself writing a 4,000-word article. Or it might be 1,000. Either way, it’s going to be good.

How to Generate Leads From the Most Popular Pages on Your Website

How to Generate Leads From the Most Popular Pages on Your Website | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

From blog posts to landing pages to job postings, your website may be made up of tens, hundreds; even thousands of individual pages.

But regardless how many pages you have on your site, you'll find that the vast majority of your traffic comes in to a few, very specific pages -- often your homepage, your "About" page, your "Contact Us" page, and maybe one or two of your most popular blog posts.

And because so many people are landing on those four or five pages, it's very important that you take special care to optimizing those pages for conversions. Otherwise, you're leaving potentially massive lead and sales numbers on the table. Research shows that companies that take on a structured approach towards conversion optimization are 2X as likely to see a large increase in sales.

Trust me: Optimizing these pages can pay off big time in the long run.So, how do you figure out which pages on your website get the most traffic? And once you've found that out, what are the best ways to optimize those pages for leads -- and which tools can help? Let's start with the first question....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

HubSpot shows how to identify the most popular pages on your website, along with 10 detailed tips on how to optimize those pages for lead generation.

We Wrote 150 Blog Posts In 50 Days, How About Our Traffic?

We Wrote 150 Blog Posts In 50 Days, How About Our Traffic? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

For the last year we’ve written about 2 blog posts each week on our blog LogMyCalls. We said we had a content strategy, but we really didn’t. Our blogs were read, but not all that much. It sort of felt like we were writing into an empty box. Then I came across a blog post by a guy who had written 50 blog posts in 25 days. His traffic went up, his organic traffic went up, his referral traffic went up. Everything went up.

So, we decided to do something similar at LogMyCalls. We decided to write 150 blog posts in 50 days. We did this from Feb 3 until April 13. We only published blogs on weekdays, so the experiment lasted 10 weeks. Three blogs a day, 5 days a week. We wrote on marketing and call tracking related topics. The results of this test speak for themselves...

What an interesting case study in blogging, content marketing and SEO. Lots of inspiration here!
