The World's Highest-Paid YouTube Stars 2015 | Forbes | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Ask just about any stranger on the street who Felix Kjellberg is and you’ll likely get a blank stare. Identify him as PewDiePie, his name on YouTube—where he’s got almost 40 million subscribers—and you’ll get a few more positive responses.

The 25-year-old Swede is the top-earning YouTube star on the planet, pulling in $12 million pretax over the past year, all for providing expletive-heavy commentary as he plays videogames. Thanks to the millions of fans who make up his “bro army,” advertisers are willing to pay a pretty penny to have their products featured in his videos.

In our first-ever ranking of the top-paid YouTube stars, we have uncovered the 10 channels that have managed to earn the most from their Internet aspirations. The minimum to make the list? $2.5 million in pretax earnings in the year ending June 1, 2015....

Yahoo's Marissa Mayer: Hail to the Chief - Magazine

Yahoo's Marissa Mayer: Hail to the Chief - Magazine | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

As she works to reverse the fortunes of a failing Silicon Valley giant, Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer has fueled a national debate about the office life, motherhood, and what it takes to be the CEO of the moment.

“I really like even numbers, and I like heavily divisible numbers. Twelve is my lucky number—I just love how divisible it is. I don’t like odd numbers, and I really don’t like primes. When I turned 37, I put on a strong face, but I was not looking forward to 37. But 37 turned out to be a pretty amazing year. Especially considering that 36 is divisible by twelve!”

A few things may strike you while listening to Marissa Mayer deliver this riff, prompted by a question about how her life has changed since her son, Macallister, was born last fall. The first is that she’s not kidding about being a geek. Mayer talks about numbers as if they were people, refers casually to x- and y-axes, and drops terms like stochastic factor (it means a random distribution) in conversation. On business issues, she speaks awkwardly, piling as many likes into a sentence as Alicia Silverstone in Clueless. But when she gets on to technology, she turns effortlessly articulate.....

Different, and stylish, profile of Silicon Valley's new Ms Big. It appears that the substance may be there as well as the style.

Are we witnessing the birth of a new Social Network?

Are we witnessing the birth of a new Social Network? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Imagine being able to connect with friends, create status updates that can be as detailed as blog posts, check into and recommend local restaurants, find great news stories and share them with connections, upload images and even create short video snippets.

Sound familiar? If it sounds like Google+, with maybe some Vine and Foursquare thrown into the mix, there's good reason for that. When Google decided to create their new social network, it was a combination of a new platform and strong tie-ins to other platforms, like YouTube, which had been acquired.

So when Marissa Mayer joined Yahoo! as CEO in June, 2012, it's clear that she created a strategy for the Internet Giant to once again become relevant. But what, exactly, that strategy was hasn't been clear. Until now.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Yahoo's social strategy will take time but could end up being impressive if they keep it as simple as possible.

Agree Laura but there's room for a new tool with smart integrated features. Depends totally on their ingenuity and target..
Michelle Gilstrap's curator insight, July 8, 2013 2:52 PM

Yahoo may be moving into a new platform with many offerings, we will have to wait a little to see what Marissa Mayer has in store for us.

Katie Couric: What the Hell Are You Doing at Yahoo?

Katie Couric: What the Hell Are You Doing at Yahoo? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It's 2013, and David Karp, David Pogue, and Katie Couric are now coworkers. Think about that. They're not sharing a stage at some boring conference or wacky variety show: they're part of the same baffling mission, and emblematic of just how confused and irrelevant Yahoo! has made itself.

Or more properly, how confused Marissa Mayer has made Yahoo! on her behalf. Since her tenure as CEO and Vogue fodder began, she's made it impossible to say what it actually is Yahoo! does....

HUH? A Yahoo mystery or a brilliant move?
