Character Count Guide for Blog Posts, Videos, Tweets & More | HubSpot

Character Count Guide for Blog Posts, Videos, Tweets & More | HubSpot | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

When it comes to writing text for your blog and social media posts, many marketers wonder, "But what's the character limit?" It's never a simple question -- sometimes, it's answered by parameters established by certain channels. And on other occasions, it's more a question of what's ideal.

For example, you probably know the character limit for a tweet is 140, but did you know that the ideal length is actually less than that? (Hold tight -- we'll explain why.) While we've written before about optimizing your actual content, we thought it would be helpful to gather the numbers of character limits -- both enforced and ideal -- for different online channels, all in one place.

Below, you'll find a more detailed guide to character limits and ideal character counts for posts on your blog, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, SnapChat, and YouTube....

How to Sound Human: 8 Data-Backed Keys to Making Your Voice Sing

How to Sound Human: 8 Data-Backed Keys to Making Your Voice Sing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Every single day, 4.75 billion posts  go up on Facebook. To put that number in perspective, there have only been 129 million books published since the beginning of time, with an average word length of 64,000 words. That means we are publishing more content (by number of words) every single day on Facebook than is contained in every single book published since humans have existed!

For us marketers, it’s our job to stand out in that absurdly large crowd of content. One way to do this is to have a distinctly human voice.

To try and discover the magic formula for conveying that you are in fact a human on the internet, I’ve analyzed and tested over 1,500 quizzes that have been created through interact. My general hypothesis is that human sounding quizzes will get shared more, viewed more, and commented on more because people like them better. Based on that hypothesis I ran various tests and regressions to find out the best ways to sound like a person. Here are the top eight ways to sound like a real human on the Internet....

Content Must be Engaging and Compelling to be Successful, Say B2B Marketers

Content Must be Engaging and Compelling to be Successful, Say B2B Marketers | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Effective content doesn’t depend on SEO friendliness or quality of editing, say B2B marketers responding to an Optify survey [download page] released this month. Instead, it’s all about engaging and compelling storytelling. Asked the 3 most important elements of successful content, survey respondents resoundingly chose this element (81.5%), far ahead of others such as originality (52.6%) and custom content (49.2%).

This focus on storytelling may be why these marketers tend to see longer content formats and personal contact as more effective. Almost 8 in 10 consider case studies to be effective in engaging prospects and delivering message, with white papers (73%) and in-person events (72%) following. By contrast, formats such as advertorials (18%) and community threading (20%) are seen as effective by only a minority of respondents, presumably as they don’t allow for the same level of engagement....
Jeff Domansky's insight:

It's little wonder storytelling is on the radar for marketers because of its potential impact according to research. This is a must-read for content marketing and PR pros.

How Long Should Your Content Be?

How Long Should Your Content Be? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Do you know that there is an acceptable length for every type of content you make to optimize its readability and its SEO ranking?

Yes, there is a reasonable length for every type of content available and it is wise to follow them in order for you to attract as many readers as possible.

The lengths vary from social media networks to target audience. Facebook has no character limit yet the best content length for it is just around 40 characters while Twitter which has the famous 140 limit character has an optimal content length of up to 100 characters only.

The purpose of content is to be able to promote your business or brand in all available channels across social media without spending a lot of money for promoting your business. Knowing the criteria or limitations when making content saves you time, money and effort.
Jeff Domansky's insight:

These guidelines may help you create the ideal length for your next social media post regardless of channel. But they are just guidelines.

Do People Trump Content in Marketing? | {grow}

Do People Trump Content in Marketing? | {grow} | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Now if you live in the world of B2B marketing, you have been inundated with statistics for the last four years claiming sales is being disintermediated by today’s empowered buyer, with statistics like “57% of the buying process is complete before a buyer talks to sales” or “70% of the buying process is now digital.”

But Sirius, to their credit, looked at this again. According to their research, more than 50% of buyers talked to a sales person at the beginning of the buying process. For more complex purchases, the figure increases to two-thirds!

The most impactful “content” according to their research? A sales presentation. Not a video. Not a white paper. Not any of the content we produce as marketers. But a real live presentation from sales....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

The world is digital. We find, research, and buy online. But when it comes to big decisions, Eric Wittlake says we still lean on real people, even if that leaning is often digital content in marketing

Content Marketing Mistakes in Social Media | Social Media Today

Content Marketing Mistakes in Social Media | Social Media Today | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

A brand is essentially the sum of what people say about it. We’re connected and social now. And that’s not all. We’re hypercritical, hyperactive and so hyper-online, we’re barely offline when we sleep.

...Along the way, it’s nearly impossible to avoid subjects such as blogging, search, social, and some of the other tricks of the trade. Why? Because the best website in the world won’t make you a dime unless people come to it and find themselves engaged with the content there. There I go again. I can’t stop spouting the gospel.

I want my clients to understand the key to effective online marketing, or any marketing, is to get customers to know, like and trust you. That’s a high bar seldom achieved with a heavy dependence on ad or brochure-like communications. Ugh. Stop me now before I talk you into doing content marketing against your will....
