Seth Godin, Lao-Tzu and me

This short video was produced to show how quick and easy it is to produce a video from an existing blog post using the free Lumen 5 video tool.

Lumen 5 is an AI-powered video creation platform that turns blog posts into engaging videos. Using the tool is easy, intuitive and surprisingly fast. After producing a few Lumen 5 videos, I expect you could create one in as little as 10 minutes from existing content like a blog post. You can see my original blog post here http://bit.ly/LaoTzu8 to compare it with the video produced so effortlessly.

The creative and marketing possibilities are very intriguing and so far Lumen 5 is free although it may offer more features for a price in the future. For now, it's an interesting tool to explore.

Businesses, bloggers, trainers, authors and really anyone can use it to produce social content to drive audience engagement online. Great thing is you can focus on your message, visuals and creativity without having to touch the technology.

You can get more info and demos for the app at www.lumen5.com.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

With Lumen 5, producing video content for social media is simple, easy, intuitive and fast. My demo was taken from an older blog post about writing for the internet. Lots of potential for this tool.

How to Personalize Content in Real Time

How to Personalize Content in Real Time | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It’s no secret that we as consumers are exposed to a plethora of promotions and ads every single day. In fact, according to some we are exposed to somewhere between 5,000 to 10,000 ads per day, a staggering number that is only increasing. So how can we as marketers cut through the noise and reach consumers where they are?

The answer may lie in the intersection between personalized content and mobile technology. According to an infographic by Microsoft and VMob, utilizing real-time data can lead to hyper-personalized content creation. For example, a retailer who aligned seasonal marketing and promotional messages with localized weather trends saw sales increase by 18%.

Connect, Don't Impress: How to Reach Millennials in an Impactful and Authentic Way - Insights

Connect, Don't Impress: How to Reach Millennials in an Impactful and Authentic Way - Insights | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

A quarter life crisis is something that most people can relate to. You wake up, look around, wonder what your purpose is, and come to grips with the idea of actually becoming an adult. Most twentysomethings leave it as that and take a bit of time to wallow, soul-search, and (more often than not) commiserate with friends. Not Samantha Jayne. In her mid-20’s, Jayne was working at an ad agency when she encountered her first taste of a quarter life crisis. She wasn’t happy and needed to decide what to do about it.

Jayne had always loved writing, so she started a Tumblr and Instagram chronicling her struggles. She made up poems about her everyday ups and downs and called her blog and Instagram, “Quarter Life Poetry.” The poems she came up with are about working, shopping, her love life, student loans, and other issues relevant to millennials.

Today, the 26-year-old has over 104,000 followers on her Instagram account, and recently released a book version of her project. One of the promotional videos for the book garnered over 10 million hits on Facebook alone. It’s safe to say that Jayne knows a thing or two about how to capture the attention of millennials. She recently spoke at the NewsCred 2016 #ThinkContent Summit and shared her thoughts on how to really speak to millennials....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Lots of valuable marketing insight into millennials and the importance of connecting rather than injecting yourself into their lives.

This Mobile App Pays You for Your Selfies While Giving Custom Data to Brands

This Mobile App Pays You for Your Selfies While Giving Custom Data to Brands | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Do you want to pay for a fresh box of golf balls or to get your nails done simply by doing what you are already doing all time time? Well, Pay Your Selfie has just what you need—an app that doles out cash for your moments of mobile narcissism.

The Chicago-based company has attracted 100,000 users since launching in September, accruing 500,000 photos from consumers, many of whom pose with brands. Here's why they selfie up with marketers: They get paid up to $1 when they upload a picture with a brand in it after Pay Your Selfie posts a request for such photos.

Unsponsored selfies—photos in which users do not snap pics with a specific product—pay just a few coins. At any rate, once their digital piggy bank (see below) gets to $20, the company will mail them a check for the amount or donate it, upon request, to their chosen charitable organization.

What's more, brands are forking over cash to Pay Your Selfie on a per-engagement basis, taking the data and utilizing the insights to inform future marketing efforts like creative for ads and packaging for products. The lion's share of the app's users are millennials, the all-important demographic marketers are trying to target....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Pay-for-selfies app Pay Your Selfie gains momentum by paying consumers and delivering data to brands.

The Disconnect Between Marketers and Consumers | MarketingProfs

The Disconnect Between Marketers and Consumers | MarketingProfs | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Most marketers say traditional advertising is the most effective means of influencing buying decisions, yet consumers say advertising is one of the least-trusted influences, according to a recent report from Experticity.

The report was based on data from a survey of 217 senior marketing executives in North America and 300 North American consumers.

The marketers surveyed rank advertising, public relations, and content marketing as the most effective tactics for influencing buying decisions (83% rank each as effective); moreover, 78% of marketers plan to increase their investment in those three areas.

In contrast, less than half (49%) of consumers say they trust advertising from brands.

The buying influences that consumers say they put the most faith in are recommendations from friends and family (83% trust), online reviews (76%), and third-party experts (70%)....

Ad Blockers Got You Down? Time to Up Your PR And Content Marketing Efforts | MediaPost | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Luckily, advertising isn't the only thing that makes the marketing world go round. Remember public relations? Yup. And while public relations (or, as today's buzzword dictionary would have it, earned media) won't necessarily solve a starving publisher's problems, it will help get a marketer's word out to market by circumventing ad blockers.

So too will content marketing and native advertising (which will help publishers stay afloat). Writing in an Advertising Age article entitled "The Solution to Ad Blocking Is to Double-Down on Earned Media," Edelman Chief Content Strategist Steve Rubel wrote: "We may look back on this time as the beginning of the great era of earned media." ...

Your ‘About’ Page is Losing You Money - Here’s How to Fix it

Your ‘About’ Page is Losing You Money - Here’s How to Fix it | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
It’s an easy mistake to make.

You slap some words on your About page, wrench them apart, shovel in a bit fluff, a pinch of jargon; and give it no more thought. Because it’s not that important, right?

Not exactly.

You see, this is where so many of us get it wrong, and leak piles of cash in the process. Even though we may pay it less attention, our About page is one of our most visited - which makes it low-hanging fruit, just waiting to be plucked.

By which I mean, if your visitors aren’t captivated, bewitched, mesmerized or just plain hungry-for-more after reading your About page, you can grab yourself a hanky and wave them goodbye.

In other words, you just lost a sale.

Because your About page isn’t just about painstakingly-crafted words that make you look good. Your About page is like speed dating

Let me explain.

Facebook To Collect Brand-Sponsored Content Data | Ryan Skinner | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

An announcement late last week by the Facebook media team may have been overlooked by many marketers, but it has intriguing ramifications.

Facebook announced that it would effectively allow any organization with a verified page to publish brand-sponsored content without asking Facebook for explicit permission first, provided that content was tagged to the brand. They said:

"Today we're updating our branded content policy to enable verified Pages to share branded content on Facebook. Along with changes to our branded content policy and ads policy, we're offering a new tool that makes it easy for publishers and influencers to tag a marketer when they publish branded content. Publishers and influencers must use this tag for all branded content shared on Facebook."

The State of Multimedia in Press Releases [Study + Infographics] | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

PR Newswire has advised our clients to include images and video in their press releases for a number of years, and we are now seeing a much greater usage than previously. In 2015, 42% of releases included visual elements.

This is a sharp increase from the mere 14% we saw the last time we analyzed these numbers in 2013; however, there is still room for improvement. When you look at last year’s 100 most viewed press releases, 68 included multimedia, a 42% increase compared to 2013’s top 100.

It’s clear that the use of multimedia in press releases is quickly becoming standard practice within the industry. With the continued influx of visuals across the larger communications landscape, I expect these numbers to continue to climb....
