Spellbinding scenes captured by adventure seekers and even wildlife madeGoPro the hottest video camera around. And now, the company wants to give marketers a sharper view. Hundreds of those videos, like those from the perspective of a dolphin swimming alongside his pod or a dude jumping from a tall building, will soon be at marketers' fingertips via a platform dubbed GoPro Licensing.
"We've gotten calls almost daily from creative agencies, TV networks and film studios that want to use our content," said Adam Dornbusch, head of programming at GoPro, which just began taking marketers' applications via its online portal....
According to a recently conducted study by VidYard and Demand Metrics, video marketing is the most effective marketing option available today. In addition, the return on investment provided by video marketing is improving, according to 48% of the respondents. While it is certainly no surprise that video marketing is an excellent resource, this study really just shows how important it is.
The effectiveness of video has not been lost on successful marketing companies. The report found that over a third of large companies are producing over 100 marketing videos each year. They also found that 86% of those surveyed use key tools to measure the effectiveness of their video marketing efforts, which further shows that the ROI on video is real....
...Animated videos, on the other hand, provide a quick way to create super HD quality video content that has several advantages over traditional video. It has none of the artificial and cringe-worthy acting and no issues with sound or weather, particularly when filming outdoors!
All you need to do is apply this approach to infographics. As with animated videos, you don’t need any specialist design or video production expertise to create one. And while you’re able to create excellent visual feasts that require little effort from the viewer to learn from them (all they need to do is hit “play”!), you’re also taking advantage of the popularity of videos.
Let’s take a look at one of our favourite tools of the moment – GoAnimate. Hosted online, all you need is an Internet connection to produce professional-looking animated videos....
...Internet video is expected to account for about 84 percent of all U.S. Internet traffic in four years, up from its current 78 percent, Cisco says. That figure also includes IP VOD, which is basically pay-TV providers’ on-demand video services. A recent Sandvine study on cord-cutters also pointed to how much more bandwidth they use than average Internet users. Interestingly, the percentage of traffic devoted to those pay-TV services is expected to drop as services from online content providers, such as Netflix or Amazon, become more popular, according to Cisco....
When I come across a really good video online (and I mean a really good video), I get excited. It’s like I’m having a beer with a friend and sharing an enlightening, inspiring, passionate conversation. It’s a night to remember. Great videos should give you that buzz… but without the beer.
Remember Schoolhouse Rock? Who the hell could make learning about adjectives fun? Well, Schoolhouse Rock did — and they did it with video. Videos have evolved since then and have taken the online community by storm. So if you incorporate video in your next site, what do you need to know?...
With the release of the 2014 Econsultancy Online Video Best Practice Guide, we thought some condensed tips from the report might prove to be useful to any of you that are interested in online video. Not only do 60 percent of marketing pros use videos in campaigns, but 60 percent believe it leads to higher sales from the recipients.
Would you believe that 60 percent of U.S. marketers are using video in their email campaigns? It’s a surprisingly high number, since videos themselves can’t be included in email messages. But that’s one finding in the third annual business video marketing survey conducted by the Web Video Marketing Council. This is OnlineVideo.net’s third and final look at that report.
That 60 percent figure is an increase from 52 percent the year before. The survey also found that 26 percent of marketers are thinking about using video in email campaigns....
...According to a new analysis by viral-video tracking firm Unruly, 40 percent of Instagram’s top 1,000 videos are created by brands—suggesting that it might be just the right platform for messaging.Looking to score a big hit on Instagram?
Think like Snoopy.Snoopygrams—the popular Instagram account featuring the iconic dog and other characters from Peanuts that publishes a constant feed of the comic to followers—has the most widely shared video on the service among brands. But it’s far from alone...
By 2017, it will take an individual more than five million years to watch the amount of video that's going to be generated each monthmonth.
...I posed that question to Michael Litt, CEO and cofounder of video mark/eting company Vidyard, and asked him to make the case for video to be that tool.“Well, you could probably create some really awesome content about
what life was like on that island,” Litt jokes. “But seriously, tweets, written content, and photos can only go so far; video is the most engaging medium on the Web—it's the next best thing to being there in person.
”Consumers clearly agree, as is evidenced by their actions. According to Cisco, by 2017 online video will be responsible for nearly 70% of all consumer Internet traffic. Within three years, nearly one million minutes of video content will cross content delivery networks every second. By then Cisco estimates it would take an individual more than five million years to watch the amount of video content generated each month. To put that into perspective, the genus of great ape from which modern humans derive still hadn't evolved five million years ago....

I saw first-hand that video can connect audiences to the emotion behind a story or product like no other medium. Brands looking to diversify their marketing efforts should include video content now that 85 percent of web users view streaming media.

...This data illustrates how the quintessential picture of linear TV viewing is dramatically evolving as tech-savvy viewers with new consumption appetites enter the picture. Consumers can now select their preferred screen based on the type of content they wish to view, and each device supports a unique need. This allows media consumption to become even more ubiquitous and transcend the boundaries of time and place.
In his recent report, my colleague Jim Nail reveals that this modern pattern of media consumption gives marketers new opportunities to harness the power of video and tell their brand stories. However, in order to do this successfully, marketing professionals must “factor in different attention and engagement by platform.” As Jim says, “up to this point, advertisers have largely assumed that a video ad performs similarly whether it’s on TV, online, or on a mobile phone . . . TV may still have the larger audiences, but the smaller, more attentive audiences on other devices may drive higher message communication.”...
The Adweek/Shareablee Instagram Video weekly chart is back after a brief hiatus, as we've tweaked our approach and will now regularly call out only the top-of-the-heap winners.
The chart below features eight categories (auto, beauty, consumer electronics, retail, fashion, celebrity, sports leagues and TV show), which will appear every week....
YouTube has just passed Facebook and is bigger - Now the largest social media site in the U.S. Yes, that's right - the largest social media site.
I was among the first to show that YouTube was the third largest search engine in a presentation entitled, “Getting Found in All the Right Places,” at a SEMNE event on Nov. 7, 2007. And I may have been the first to observe that YouTube was about to pass Yahoo! in expanded searches in a story that was published in Search Engine Watch on July 20, 2008. So, I suspect that the second part of the line, “YouTube has grown to become … the second most-used platform for searching,” is old news.
If anyone wants an update, here’s the U.S. data from comScore qSearch for May 2014: Google had 12.5 billion explicit core searches, YouTube had 4.0 billion search queries, Microsoft had 3.5 billion searches, and Yahoo! had 1.8 billion....
Use and apply videos to improve your existing marketing campaigns to build a conversation with your customers
Websites and marketing campaigns often rely on text and graphics; however, relying on too much of any one ingredient is a recipe for disaster. While graphics convey information succinctly, and text explains and elaborates, adding video to the mix is a way to reach customers who absorb information visually and tune out when they see too much text.
According to Insivia, on average, viewers retain 95 percent of information if they watch it it, but only 10 percent of the when they read it.
If a customer doesn’t hear or understand your message, your chances of converting them are slim. For many companies, conversion rates increased after adding videos to their campaigns. PowToon found start-ups and small businesses that used videos saw a conversion rate increase an average of 40 percent. Additionally, start-ups saw email sign-ups increase 67 percent....
If you want to put your finger on the zeitgeist of brand storytelling today, watch the recent GoPro ad, “Lions - The New Endangered Species.”
... The genius of GoPro’s content marketing—and why their videos are immensely viral—is that they don’t feel like ads. Customers make up the vast majority of them, and the ones produced in-house are terrifically visual, quality narrative storytelling.
But I’d argue that the massive popularity of the videos and the technology itself is due to something even more specific. GoPro is a zeitgeist product, the perfect technology for the kinds of stories (marketing and otherwise) that customers are finding increasingly desirable in a highly interactive social media and X-Box enhanced world. The company has seen its growth double year-on-year since it’s founding.
Today, customers want stories that put them in the driver’s seat, either as characters, narrators, or authors. Even better are stories in which customers themselves are creative agents, another reason why GoPro’s customer-submitted content performs so well....
...Is there anything more you can do to convince that traffic to stay a little while longer? To not bounce straight back to the SERP? To respond to calls-to-action? To increase your conversion rate? Using the five techniques laid out in this previous article, five persuasive web design techniques, I’ll be taking a look at various ecommerce homepages that either tick one, or even all of the following persuasive design boxes....
What you have on your landing page can either make you or break you. Landing pages that work must be engaging, interesting and should capture the attention of visitors right away. Having a great landing page will ensure that more people take action making it possible for you to meet your company’s goals. Here is a look at why landing pages that work have video.
eCommerce sites - why stop at product images? Product videos are where it's at. Here's three reasons why...
I recently stumbled across this post from Econsultancy filled with ideas for making product images work well on eCommerce sites.
I love the emphasis placed on the visual element – but why stop at product images? Using video marketing can be just as effective – if not more so – in creating an impact and showcasing your product at its best....
Product videos are a very effective online sales tool as they give a better view of the item and help to answer any queries the customer might have.
We’ve previously blogged a number of case studies from retailers that have boosted conversions by as much as 160% by using product videos, so the potential impact of the feature shouldn’t be ignored.
But the precise use of video will differ depending on what you’re trying to sell, as clothing retailers will obviously have a different sales pitch to a software vendor. So with this in mind here are six examples of businesses that got creative with their product videos...
The benefits of video in the ecommerce arena are well known – no other approach generates engagement and sharing, boosts search traffic and conversions to the levels that video does. But there's more to video than just creating and posting product information. Are you doing everything you can to make the most of these incredibly valuable assets?
Because video does such a great job of attracting and holding consumer attention, it can contribute to a wide range of successful marketing initiatives aimed at everyone from current customers to new prospects.
For example, video can be used in a bounceback strategy – promoting relevant products to consumers who have already visited or made purchases at your site. And its strong search value can be used to hook consumers who are researching potential purchases on the web.
In addition, try these five ideas for making video a powerful contributor to your successful campaigns....
