8 Mistakes Brands Make With Instagram

8 Mistakes Brands Make With Instagram | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Since coming into existence in 2010, Instagram has given brands the opportunity to engage with their audience and tell their story through the power of visuals. The Facebook-owned app was one of the fastest growing major social networks in 2014, and is now home to more than 300 million accounts.

In addition to the network’s impressive growth, users are also highly engaged with the platform. Each day, half of all users use the app and spend an average of 21 minutes on the app. Top brands have quickly realized the potential Instagram presents. Simply Measured’s Quarterly Instagram Network Study (Q4 2014) found that 86% of Interbrand’s 2014 Top 100 Brands had an Instagram account, which was up from 71% the year prior. Instagram is quickly turning into the go-to network for brands looking to drive engagement.

Whether you’re considering joining, are brand new to the network, or need tips and best practices to get more out of the app, I’ve gathered 8 of the most common mistakes brands make on Instagram backed by the ones that are creating a memorable presence....

Coming Soon: New Instagram Business Tools

Coming Soon: New Instagram Business Tools | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

With so many companies using Instagram, and many people on the platform interacting with them, there was a desire from our business community to do more. So we listened. And, after hundreds of interviews with businesses, three key needs became clear—stand out, get insights and find new customers.

First, businesses want the ability to stand out on Instagram. Many companies, including a furniture store in San Francisco, shared that it would be easier for customers to email questions because comments are hard to track and take time to sift through. Second, businesses want a simple way to get insights. A retailer in Austin explained that many analytics are overwhelming and hard to apply to its marketing. And third, businesses want to reach even more customers. A do-it-yourself craft shop in New York City mentioned it’s always looking for quick ways to fill seats in class.

With these insights in mind, we set out to make Instagram work even better for businesses. So today, we’re excited to unveil our new Instagram Business Tools....

How to Get Noticed: 3 Instagram Marketing Strategies

How to Get Noticed: 3 Instagram Marketing Strategies | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Right off the bat, Instagram makes itself more difficult than other social media networks. Instead of posting anything you please, you’re forced to use a picture or video with every post – and that picture or video is the main focus of your post.

That means you’re constantly creating new visual content – if you’re not, others who are creating new eye-catching Instagram content will pull right ahead. Especially in the jewelry and fashion industries, Instagram has fierce competition for viewers’ attention.

The best way to get ahead is to do something truly unique and creative that your competitors aren’t doing. But everyone needs to start somewhere.

We’ll go over three general Instagram marketing strategies and give you real examples of brands using each one so you have the resources to get started right away....

What Spending $57,000 on Instagram Taught Me | Neil Patel

What Spending $57,000 on Instagram Taught Me | Neil Patel | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

This made me think: how can I replicate Dan’s Instagram success, but with a much more toned-down version?

The toughest part of any marketing campaign is getting it off the ground. Once you have a proven model, scaling it becomes easy.

To get a head start, I hired Branden Hampton who has over 30 million social media followers among all his accounts. My goal was to pay Brandon to leverage his profiles and get his followers to come over to me.

But Brandon had a better idea. Why not start with an existing account that already has over 100,000 followers and then leverage his follower base?...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Neil Patel's weird social science experiment makes interesting reading if you can get past the flash and cash talk.
