Twitter's US Audience Gets More Mobile - eMarketer

Twitter's US Audience Gets More Mobile - eMarketer | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Twitter, which has struggled to grow its user base to the size of some of its social networking rivals, is reporting earnings this week not long after news that companies including Disney would not be moving to acquire the service.

This year, eMarketer estimates, more than 52 million people in the US will use Twitter on a monthly basis, and just shy of half will use the service on both PCs and mobile devices. Mobile-only Twitter use is becoming more common in the US as desktop- based usage shrinks, and will account for a majority of US users in 2018 for the first time.

Currently, just 19.5% of internet users and 16.1% of the population of the US uses Twitter, compared with 51.5% of the population using Facebook. On a worldwide basis, Twitter penetration is even lower: Only 3.9% of people around the world use Twitter this year, and by 2020 the figure is only expected to rise to 4.8%....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Most of the social network’s ad revenues come from mobile placements and user growth has plateaued.

How to Create the Most Shareable Content | BRANDE

How to Create the Most Shareable Content | BRANDE | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Industry expert ShareThis – creator of the widget that allows for sharing on 120 social channels — released an eye-opening study that showed Facebook now makes up 84% of all internet sharing. Twitter is next at about 6%, with Blogger at 5% and Pinterest at 3%. Email makes up less than 1% of all sharing, even though many emails include buttons like ShareThis.

Despite Facebook’s domination of all sharing, the study found that it’s actually Pinterest that boasts the most sharing in a number of categories: food & drink, beauty & fitness, home & garden, and shopping. Twitter does best with sports (the games are perfect for live-tweeting) and even beats Facebook in the news category.

So if your organization is in any of the Pinterest-leaning fields, or if you have visual content like photos, cartoons, or infographics, you should post them on both Facebook and Pinterest for a one-two punch....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

The latest research reveals how to create the most shareable content, where to post it, and where its value really lies.

Twitter Rated Most Effective for Content Marketing | AllTwitter

Twitter Rated Most Effective for Content Marketing | AllTwitter | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

A new study of marketers in the United Kingdom has rated Twitter as the most effective social media platform for content marketing.

In the third annual Trends report, Axonn Media found that 89 percent of UK marketers used Twitter to distribute content and 75 percent said that they found it to be the most effective channel. This placed Twitter first ahead of LinkedIn which, while in use by 96 percent of marketers, was only cited as effective by 61 percent.

Facebook was given the thumbs up by just 29 percent of respondents.

Overall, social media finished third behind in-person events and blogs for effectiveness....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

This study surprised me and I would really like to see a clearer, more comprehensive look at results rather than an informal "Which one works better?" question.

Majority of B2B Websites' Content Failed to Reel in Customers in 2014 | KoMarketing Associates

Majority of B2B Websites' Content Failed to Reel in Customers in 2014 | KoMarketing Associates | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Forrester scored companies according to various factors, including the appeal of their website content and use of video. The companies had the potential to score a perfect 30, or obtain a passing score of 20 or above. Only four companies successfully passed Forrester’s test; the average score was 12.8. Forrester did not reveal the names of the four companies that passed its test.

“The biggest problem is that the majority of content talks about the company, what its products and services do and how many awards they’ve won, but doesn’t speak to the issues their prospective buyers are trying to solve,” said Laura Ramos, Forrester analyst, according to Ad Age.

Telling stories, writing in narrative and shooting video were identified as key ways that companies can help their messages stand out among the rest....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

A new report published by Forrester Research shows that a majority of B2B websites have failed to engage users with content in 2014. It's time for marketers to rethink and refocus their content marketing.
