Marketers Cruise Capt. Lou Edwards shares a collection of 101 cool tools and technology used and recommended by the biggest names in marketing. The tools include the following categories: audio, video, communication, social media, management, automation, productivity, content marketing, scheduling, task management, books, and tips. A very useful reference.
Every individual, small business and large enterprise will not only create content and engage on social media in 2016, but seek new ways to cut through the noise and stomp out the competition.
So how do you ensure your brand gets the exposure needed to fuel growth? With the help of great tools, of course. Here are 11 marketing tools you can use to grow your brand in 2016:...
For meaningful growth, startups must completely change the rules of traditional marketing and innovate outside of those growth channels. You should be thinking growth when building your app. Companies like Dropbox, Mint and the recently sensational Slack incorporated sharing into their functionalities.Mailbox used the waiting list to their advantage and it worked.
Lot of startups now look beyond AdWords, SEO or popular marketing strategies to find users. These are a collection of products, tools and apps to grow your startup or new business....
Name virtually any task, and there’s probably an app for it. The Android and Apple online marketplaces are flooded with apps that range from helpful to inane. With all the buzz surrounding successes like “Candy Crush” or “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” (which is set to make $200 million this year), PR pros can often forget what a life saver technology can be, overlooking many digital tools that can make the work go more smoothly.
Here are five apps that PR professionals should have in their arsenal:...
The Aesop Story Engine is one of the most beautiful tools for WordPress that I’ve seen in a long time. Named for Aesop, the master story teller whose fables are woven into our cultural consciousness, this engine provides a powerful suite of multimedia storytelling tools. The Aesop Story Engine plugin was created to be a foundation for building feature-rich, interactive, long-form storytelling themes for WordPress.
The engine powers the Aesop Hosted Storytelling site where users can create stories for free. The Aesop development team has released it as an open source WordPress plugin, making it possible for you to add the same storytelling capabilities to your own website....
The key to making the most of social media is listening to what your audience has to say about you, analysing the data and, finally, reaching social media business intelligence; using all these insights to know your customers better and improve your marketing strategy. If you are a social media rookie, this list of the Top 10 Free Social Media Monitoring Tools might come in handy.
When looking for a tool, it’s a good idea to try a couple of them and choose the one that suits your needs best. However, bear in mind that these tools are not an alternative to Enterprise-level tools, such as Brandwatch, which brought social media monitoring to a new level, offering a much higher variety of services and in-depth analysis. It all depends on your needs. That being said, let’s take a look at some of the best free monitoring tools...
Nothing screams “summer!” like a bag full of beer and ice. The messenger-bag gurus at Timbuk2 know this, and have re-clad and re-released their stealthy party-in-a-bag bag, the Dolores Chiller Messenger — this time in Pilsner Urquell’s signature green and white colors.
You may be asking “can’t I just dump all the stuff out of my own messenger bag and fill it with beer and ice?” Why no, you can’t. Your bag’s interior isn’t insulated; and more importantly, your bag doesn’t come with a handy bottle opener....
When no electricity is available, a new self-powered emergency smartphone charger juices your smartphone with simple hand cranking. You could have all the apps in the world to prepare you for survival when disaster strikes — flashlight, emergency contacts, GPS and first aid tips — but they'll be entirely useless when you run out of battery juice on your phone. If you're camping in the boondocks or preparing a disaster survival kit, you might want to consider a low-tech emergency smartphone charger. Seattle-based SOS Ready has designed the pocket-sized "SOSCharger," which is powered by you. With the gadget's built-in generator, all you do is connect to your smartphone via USB connection and hand-crank the handle. The SOSCharger has a 1,500 mAh Lithium Polymer battery, and depending on your phone and network, the company claims three to five minutes of winding will translate to five to 12 minutes of talk time....

If there is one thing that is constant about social media platforms (besides their URLs), it is that they change fast. There are some recently released social media tools that communication and marketing professionals may find very helpful…or at least find good to know about.
In this post I want to take a look at some new tools that are available for the more prominent social media platforms and give an idea of how they can be helpful for PR professionals and marketers....
After 36 hours of research, testing eight different devices in a number of real-world settings and then playing the audio we collected to a four-person blind listening panel to evaluate its sound quality, we’ve determined that the best audio recorder for taping meetings, lectures, and interviews is the $100Sony ICD-UX533. It recorded the most intelligible and truest-to-life sound clips of all the recorders we tested. It’s easily pocketable and its intuitive, easy-to-press function buttons combined with a legible, backlit screen gave it the best user interface out of all the models in our test group.
Who is this for?If you want to record a lecture, meeting, or interview, this pick is for you. It’s ideal for students, radio journalists, and anyone who needs to record meetings for future reference. On the other hand, if you’re a musician, a professional podcaster, a radio journalist or if you belong to some other profession that requires the use of a high-quality audio recorder on a regular basis, this pick isn’t for you....
...There’s nothing wrong with the classic tools; they just aren’t the latest ones. So I turned to Ben Wirz, who a couple of digital lifetimes ago joined Knight as director of business consulting. Ben helps lead the Knight Enterprise Fund, which invests in startup companies.
Here are his notes on tools journalists and news organizations should try....
Twice this week I've been asked for alternatives to iBooks Author that students can use to create multimedia books. This is probably a good time to share the three options that I usually recommend. These are listed in the order in which I typically recommend them...

New storytelling tool for journalists, writers and creative people looks very promising. It's in beta and is definitely worth exploring.
The Segway. The Bluetooth headset. The pocket protector. What do these three technologies have in common? They all pretty much work as promised. They all seem like good ideas on paper. And they’re all too dorky to live. Now, far be it from me to claim that nerdiness equals lack of popularity potential. But I contend that dorkiness and nerdiness are two different qualities. While nerdiness implies a certain social awkwardness that’s ultimately endearing, dorkiness connotes social obliviousness that opens you to deserved ridicule. Guess which category Google Glass will fall under when it goes “mainstream?” Forget about the privacy concerns for a second. I don’t think you have to get that serious to recognize the inherent antisocialness of Google Glass. All you have to do is look at the guy in the picture at the top of this post. Or any of the rest of the guys on White Men Wearing Google Glass, a new Tumblr that serves up the data needed to transform the hypothesis “Google Glass is too dorky to succeed” into a proven scientific theory. Disagree? The floor is open for falsification. Start your own Tumblr: People Who Look Cool While Wearing Google Glass....
