10 Presentation Trends to Watch Out For in 2016

10 Presentation Trends to Watch Out For in 2016 | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Each year, we see new trends surfacing in the world of presentation design. From passing fads to design standards that will endure beyond 2016, these trends will continue to shape the way presentations are created and delivered before boardrooms, classrooms or even TED audiences across the globe.

While some of them may exist only for the sake of aesthetics, others have actually been adopted to suit the needs and preferences of modern-day consumers. For example, the use of flat design, many experts say, is more than just the latest craze; it responds to the fact that realist elements are very hard to incorporate into responsive systems designed for screens of all sizes.

To keep you up to date with the latest design techniques, we’ve compiled a list of presentation design techniques that will help you create a presentation that looks fresh and contemporary–just like the content you will hopefully deliver to your audiences....

Bad News for PowerPoint Users | Eric Bergman

Bad News for PowerPoint Users | Eric Bergman | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Researchers at Purdue University have some bad news for the 40 million people worldwide who deliver “standard” PowerPoint presentations each and every day.

When PowerPoint is used, the researchers concluded, the audience retains nearly 30 per cent less than if presenters eliminate PowerPoint and simply talk to their audience.

In other words, by simply turning off your projector and using your slides as notes, you can significantly enhance your communication effectiveness.
Jeff Domansky's insight:

The bad news about PowerPoint gets even worse according to Eric Bergman.

Viktor Mauzer's curator insight, February 17, 2015 5:32 PM

Communication in business is extremely important as it's a main medium of introducing new business ideas. Take a look at this turnover for PowerPoint users

southernbusiness's curator insight, February 18, 2015 12:14 AM

"Southern Business may not rely on the internet,  70% of consumers will use online search to

find offline businesses.Your online reputation can make a difference in getting a new customer

in your door .

Halina Ostańkowicz-Bazan's curator insight, February 19, 2015 9:24 AM

What do you think about that;

"Students who weren’t exposed to PowerPoint scored 29 per cent higher on the quiz in recalling oral information, and achieved higher overall scores with the recall of all information. “The presence of PowerPoint negatively affected the recall of auditory information,” the researchers concluded, adding that “graphic scores reveal there was no notable gain when using PowerPoint to display graphic information. Create free presentations without PowerPoint - CNET | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

That said, PowerPoint isn't exactly free, and I suspect most seasoned users would agree it hasn't evolved much over the years. What if you want to integrate, say, a live Twitter feed in your presentation, or move beyond static slides?

Good news: There are plenty of PowerPoint alternatives, some of them free, some of them capable of adding considerably more pizzazz to your materials. In addition to the obvious PowerPoint clones -- Google Docs, OpenOffice Impress, Zoho Show and so on -- make sure to check out these three free outliers...

The 7 Best Tools to Present & Share Your PDF Files Online

The 7 Best Tools to Present & Share Your PDF Files Online | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Many websites now offer the facility of being able to host PDF files for easy viewing. The PDF file remains open inside a widget and you can scroll up and down while you read. From the latest Supreme Court rulings to a recipe for chocolate cake, you are likely to find all kinds of PDF’s hosted there.

These kinds of tools are also used to show leaked documents. Famous examples include an early draft of Quentin Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight“, and 7,000 of Hillary Clinton’s emails.

Other tools enable you to easily convert to PDF. For example, if you have a PowerPoint presentation, you can export it to PDF, end up with better looking slides, and avoid the dreaded “Death By Powerpoint”.

So which are these sites and how do you use them?

Glad you asked. Read on to see some you will already know and use, while others will be less familiar....

Free Technology for Teachers: Best of 2013 So Far...76 Ways to Use Haiku Deck

Free Technology for Teachers: Best of 2013 So Far...76 Ways to Use Haiku Deck | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Haiku Deck's Education Case Studies Pinterest board contains 76 examples of Haiku Deck being used by students and teachers. If you're not familiar with it or haven't tried Haiku Deck, here's what you need to know. It's a free iPad app for creating slideshow presentations.

There are two features of Haiku Deck that stand out. First, Haiku Deck intentionally limits how much text that you can put on each of your slides. Second, Haiku Deck helps you find Creative Commons licensed images for your presentations. When you type a word or words on your slides you can have Haiku Deck search for images for you. The images that Haiku Deck serves up are large enough to completely fill your slide. You can also upload your own images from your iPad or import images from Instagram and Facebook....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Haiku Deck is an outstanding presentation tool. Unfortunately it's only available for the iPad. Click here and suggest your preferred platform. I can't wait for it to be available for Windows or Android. Meanwhile, check out their stunning 76 education presentations on Pinterest or Haiku Deck's Pinterest board of best presentations. Highly recommended!

This is a neat start.

This page links to Haiku Deck's pinterest board where there are over 300 examples of how Haiku Deck is being used in education. I love that Haiku Deck makes following best practices for presentations easy through word limits and styling and aggregating photos that meet Creative Commons guidelines. These examples provide a lot of ideas for use in K-12 and higher education.
