Twitter's new 'Connect' tab makes it easier to find accounts to follow

Twitter's new 'Connect' tab makes it easier to find accounts to follow | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Twitter wants to make it easier to find new internet friends. A new ‘Connect’ tab on Android and iOS will link you to people and accounts it thinks you’ll enjoy following.

Although Twitter already has a ‘Who to follow’ section with a few suggestions, the idea is that Connect can give people an all-in-one hub for finding new and interesting accounts.

To come up with the suggestions, Twitter mixes in data such as who you currently follow, tweets you like, popular accounts in your local area, current trends, and more. When you open up the Connect tab, Twitter will show you why it’s making those suggestions, and it says suggestions will get better over time.

Though Twitter previously allowed you to view contacts from your address book, these are now available along with other suggestions through Connect. As before, Twitter will alert you when someone in your address book makes an account for the first time, too....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

New Twitter Connect tab will help you find interesting accounts to connect with.

Odds are, you've never met Dennis Hegstad. But you listen to him all the time.

Black Zara faux leather pants, black Vans, black Ray Ban sunglasses. The oppressive October sun beats down as Hegstad sips from a bottle of kombucha outside a coffee shop.Tilting his head to avoid the glare, wispy long blond locks fall into his eyes as he scrolls through his porcelain iPhone.

Cycling through multiple personas on more than a dozen Twitter profiles, his thumbs are set on rapid-fire: favorite, follow, post, respond, retweet, repeat. Finally, Hegstad looks up, the 25-year-old’s cobalt eyes trained directly on me.

“Sorry, I’m…”

Excuse his wandering attention: He’s not just tweeting for fun; he’s tweeting for big money--and he’s winning....

B2Bs should Tweet before noon, B2Cs in the evening | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

A study that sets out to identify spam Tweets from real social media content shows marketers how to tune out the noise, but also when to reach their target audiences. The research conducted by Gabriela Tavares and Aldo Faisal of the Imperial College of London discovered that Bots, or fake Twitter accounts, are active through all hours of the day unlike the people managing personal and corporate social media accounts.

According to the findings, which monitored Tweets in a 24-hours period, B2B companies will see the most engagement when they publish social media content during the first half the work day. Tweets peak around 10 a.m. after a sharp activity uptick in the morning, and continue to trend downward throughout the afternoon and into the evening....

How to Get Twitter Followers Who Actually Matter

Do you struggle to get Twitter followers who actually produce results for you in your business?

Social media isn’t a popularity contest – it’s a tool to connect us with the people and things that matter most in our lives. When it comes to Twitter, it’s possible to have 50,000 meaningless followers that do nothing for your business while another person may have 1000 followers that are highly active and engaged.

Which would you rather have? I know I would always choose the 1000 highly engaged followers over 50,000 followers that never end up doing anything to forward my objective for being on Twitter in the first place.

So it turns out that not every follower matters. But Melonie Dodaro, the TOP DOG social media guru, is here to help you tell the matterers from the others and get the former to follow YOU. And then, once you have them sniffing around after you, she shows you how you can hook them and SELL them.

Want to be a superstar, but no time for social media? Fake it with Ghost Tweeter | {grow}

Want to be a superstar, but no time for social media? Fake it with Ghost Tweeter | {grow} | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

"What if I told you that you could become an industry “thought leader” without ever writing a blog post. Or, that you could achieve Twitter stardom without personally sending a single tweet.I didn’t believe it either, but some people are apparently doing it. Maybe even some people you follow. And you may never guess how they’re doing it.

Ghost Tweeting is one of a number of companies that have emerged to outsource the writing and distribution of all your blogs, tweets, and posts. They will even handle all the social media engagement for you. “All the benefits, none of the work,” reads the tagline on their website....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

The challenge of "ghost" social services like this is to do it transparently and ethically. It's definitely not "authentic. I've advised many clients on strategies and helped some move forward with team tweeting but always transparently. I'll be curious to hear how others think about this practice.

Jeff Domansky's comment, August 7, 2013 3:28 PM
Thanks for your comment Malek. I think the days of "ghost" writing on social media are limited without open and honest disclosure and transparency. Nothing wrong with teams tweeting but many, including high profile personalities, authors, politicians and many others will resist. When the you know what hits the fan, that's when the trouble starts. Of course, when the intern screws up, you can always claim you were hacked LOL.
