But more importantly, Calacanis informed YouTube that it had better watch out, because he wasn’t the only person working on YouTube who felt this way....

Quality is of paramount importance when producing a video for your business. A lackluster production, or just a poorly inspired concept for either a training or a sales enablement video can mean more than just a lost opportunity for business or growth, it can also be a public relations liability. Case in point is the now infamous Star Trek inspired training video created by the Internal Revenue Service. Produced to the tune of a 60 thousand dollar tax payer funded price tag, that video should serve as the gold standard of what NOT to do when creating internal training videos or marketing collateral that uses video....
Twitter has become much more than 140-character blurbs, and now Tweetbot is using that additional content to turn our media-rich feeds into a stream of photos and videos for users to quickly scroll through. An update released today for Tweetbot on iPhone and iPad introduces a new timeline view that displays images and videos — including content from Instagram, Vine, and YouTube — inside of the Twitter feed. The display uses tweets as captions for the content, and it omits any tweets that don't include something to look at. Twitter has been working to enrich its feeds with news stories, images, and interactive content by letting developers create multimedia cards — but so far that effort hasn't exactly livened up the text-based medium on mobile devices. Tweetbot's media stream may do just that; it doesn't require users to actively open content to engage with it, and instead works by surfacing those images and videos. While it may repeat tweets that have already gone by, it's an easy way to catch up on things you may have missed. The new timeline appears to display all image and video content supported on Twitter itself, as well as select outside sources, such as Instagram, that require custom support. However, the view doesn't include all of the frills and shortcuts that Tweetbot's traditional feed has, though it can be quickly toggled on and off at the top of a timeline beside the app's search box. No announcement has been made about when or if the new view will be coming to the desktop, but if it's anything like the mobile-centric apps that it resembles, it could be a while....
Video is a powerful way to reach audiences both for publishers and advertisers. Marketers already know people are watching online video more than ever. A new Adobe Digital benchmark report reveals what, when, and how people are watching.... Based on data recorded by the Adobe Marketing Cloud customers, video consumption has grown dramatically over the past two years. To put that into context, the 15 billion video streams measured in Q4 of 2012 are 11 times more than all of the U.S. movie ticket sales in 2012. Adobe’s research found: - Digital video consumption has grown 30 percent year over year in Q4 2012. - From Q3 to Q4 2012 alone, video consumption grew 13 percent. - There has been 50 percent growth in video streams since Q1 2011. - New TV and sports content drove the highest growth in video streams in Q4 2012. This means publishers should find ways to create personalized digital video experiences for their viewers, visitors, and advertisers. While most videos are consumed on PCs, views on mobile devices have tripled from 2011 to 2012. Publishers should look for opportunities to weave more video content into their marketing channels, such as social media....

Sadly, most of us don’t have marketing budgets matching those of International brands such as Samsung, Evian, Dove or Heineken (which feature in this this weeks viral UK chart). With deeper pockets than most, these megabrands’ ‘viral videos’ clearly enjoy the lions share of online audiences. However, when an online video ‘goes viral’ this is more likely a result of significant advertising spend, rather than just plain luck, as is often perceived. The videos which do go viral as a result of pure luck, (as evident in Top Ten viral video of 2012 list), tend to either feature stupid people, drunk people, bad singers, or combination of all. The ones that aren’t a case of being in the right / wrong place at the right time, are known as ‘social videos’ (due to their share-ability). This recent phenomenon in video marketing is swiftly becoming one of the key advertising channels for brands wanting to tap into the huge audiences hanging out on social media sites. We’re not just talking about Youtube (which tends to be the host). Most of the major social media sites now allow your promotional video to be shared, and it’s these ‘shares’ which are the measure of a successful campaign. The stats are staggering; a ‘trending’ video (such as Call of Duty: Ghosts) can enjoy upwards of 150,000 shares in 24 hours, 5 million views and over 7000 comments in a week! Not bad publicity for a computer game. Sure, it helps if you have a chart topping product and a loyal army of followers. More importantly though, you’ll require a huge amount of money poured into ‘pay per click’ video advertising on the likes of Youtube....
YouTube is the second largest social network in the world, with more than 1 billion monthly active users, if you haven’t started treating it like a social network and developing your audience, you’re missing out on something big. As Robert Kyncl, the VP and Global Head of Content for Google/YouTube said, “Audience development is equally as important as great content. By creating fantastic content and spending zero time on audience development, you are certain that you will not succeed on YouTube.” Although Social Media Managers and marketers have mastered the art of Facebook and Twitter audience development over the past five years, YouTube marketing is still in its infancy. There’s a lot of confusion over what works and what doesn’t. So here are five best practices that top creators on YouTube are using to organically grow their audiences....
Advertising executives admit the tide of ads is changing and online video ads are taking the lead, new research has found. 75% of ad agency executives say that online video ads are more effective than traditional TV ads, compared with just 17% who say they are less effective. That sentiment is shared when comparing online video ads with social media and search advertising ads as well. Ad executives feel that online video ads are also more effective than direct response and display ads, a new eMarketer report found. "The popularity of digital video viewing is helping drive the expansion of the online video ad market," the eMarketer report read. "Ad execs may be responding to U.S. consumers’ seemingly endless demand for online video."...
Video is powerful because it shows there are people behind your business, which is important for building a strong brand that people can relate to. But how can you integrate it into your content marketing strategy effectively? Know Your Audience Before you can put together a video that will be relevant to your audience, you need to know precisely who that audience is. It’s important not to try to appeal to everyone – instead, figure out your archetypal customer. Two tools to help you do this are Sally Hogshead's 7 triggers of fascination and a simple guide to creating a customer persona. This’ll smooth out the rest of the process, because it’s much easier to figure out what to say to one person than to 1000....
