Are you looking for a social media analytics tool that can link social media marketing to sales conversions? Here is my review of Oktopost - which does that.
How do you prove the ROI of your social media efforts? For most people, social ROI is proved by measuring likes, follows, tweets, retweets and clicks because they don’t think they can link social media activity to sales. And truth be told, for most of the inexpensive social media management platform options available click/follow/tweet tracking is all that is offered. But that is changing.
Recently I began testing a new option, Oktopost. Oktopost is a cost effecient, social media management, tracking and reporting platform that tracks clicks, and more importantly conversions, down to the individual Facebook, LinkedIn or G+ post and tweet level. It is this ability to track conversion at the individual post level that I’ve found most helpful as it finally provides a tool to report true social media ROI....

In order to develop strategy and allocate resources business leaders need to understand the effectiveness of their existing digital initiatives. Why are social networks powerful tools for causes and campaigns? Many times, people begin to engage in activism only after they’ve been attracted by the fun stuff in a campaign — connecting with old friends and sharing photos, for example. When they witness others participating, they’ll be more likely to join the cause. With socializing as the primary draw, it’s become easier for organizers to attract more and more unlikely activists through social media.
But once a campaign reaches its critical mass, activists might think about moving to other platforms made with their needs — especially digital security — in mind. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter will remain standard fare for online activism. But the time is right for niche-oriented startups to create tools that can supplement these platforms. Here are a few worth investigating....
Many fear that, given Google Alerts’ recent issues, it will soon join Reader in the graveyard. Here are seven apps to fill the void -- and better than Google did it.... For professional users who are looking to keep track of a product or competitor, Google Alerts’ service has never been ideal. Too often, alerts are missing important data or not being sent in real time. The results are dry in their presentation, making it hard to see across multiple sources. Lastly, the complex syntax and Boolean operators can be challenging for users, leaving them with unwanted results or missing relevant information. With Google Alerts’ recent performance issues, the door is open for a new hot market. Many companies have taken advantage of the problems and have created solutions to improve where Google went wrong. Ranging from entry- to enterprise-level tools, there are now solutions for any professional to receive the most reliable results in real time. Here are seven options for various needs and budgets:...

Public Relations practitioners are familiar with the concept of identifying and building relationships with stakeholders. (Anyone who might have a material impact on your business.) The Social Graph is the representation of our relationships. In present day context, these graphs define our personal, family, or business communities on social networking websites – Jeremiah Owyang, Industry Analyst, The Altimeter Group....
Simple metrics like "followers" and "likes" are usually dismissed by the gurus but actually play an important part in your company's progress...
.Most social media “gurus” will be quick to point out that activity-based metrics such as number of posts, followers, or re-tweets are meaningless because they don’t measure real business value. I’m going to take a contrarian viewpoint today and explain that in the real world, these simple measurements are not only useful, they may be critical.
A few years ago, I was working as a consultant on a new marketing initiative for an extremely conservative, slow-moving company. As we were getting to know each other, I asked the people around the table “If we gathered here a year from now and you told me that our initiative had been wildly successful, what would have been achieved?”
One of the veterans of the team spoke up: “I would like to see that something … anything … actually HAPPENED!”...
Twitter monitoring is the only way you can optimize your Twitter strategy. With ballooning tweeters and reducing screen sizes, the chances of someone catching a glimpse of your tweets are slim. Monitoring the Follower response is, then, the only option to maximize benefits from your Twitter activity.

It’s been over a month since Google announced it would shut down Reader on July 1. Over that time, I’ve come to realize how unnecessary and outdated RSS and RSS readers are today. Like a Palm Pilot... Nothing against RSS, it has been a good tech service for a long time. It has just outlived its usefulness. Removing RSS and getting folks going back to websites will create a better experience for readers and publishers, spurring more creative business models for publishers too. So on the day they kill Google Reader, July 1, let’s make it “Kill RSS Day” and everyone remove RSS feed options from their site. We’ll all be better off. Do we have a deal?
Discover how social marketing tools like Commun.it, BlogDash and Traackr can help you identify, connect with and engage industry influencers.... This month, we learned that although 65% of brands participate in influencer marketing, just 10% of total digital marketing spend goes to social, which includes influencer marketing. Some have cried, don’t people see the opportunity? Why aren’t they spending on influencers! Technorati Media’s 2013 Digital Influence Report shared the above insight, as well as the fact that a mere 6% of social spend is allotted to marketing to influencers. This doesn’t signal a problem to me at all. In fact, it’s an indication that while influencer marketing is recognized as a valuable piece of the online marketing puzzle and many practice it, it doesn’t require a great deal of budget to accomplish. That, friends, is what we call an opportunity. That’s not to say influencer outreach is easy, but that an array of low-cost tools are available to help marketers better identify, understand and connect with industry influencers. These social tools enable us to automate much of the research, to weed through a mass of data and identify trends or common characteristics among the people who can positively impact our business with a tweet, a blog post, or a thoughtful comment. Check out these social tools for brand marketers looking to more easily and inexpensively measure and act on influence in their industry....
There’s no tool that tells you WHO is searching. But you can infer who’s searching by how they search... You can see from the graphic above that people also search using different strategies – or using different perspectives. I’m sure you’ve tried this when searching for things yourself. Do they include modifiers in their searches (like corporate, small business, commercial)? Are they looking for a wholesaler, indicating that they are a reseller or want to buy in bulk? One of the most important ways to rank in the search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo) is to specifically create content for pages on your website that use the phrases that your ideal customers use in the search engines....
