How to Create Compelling Content Images

How to Create Compelling Content Images | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

It’s said (though we not sure by whom) that we process visuals 60,000 times faster than text.

Another number that illustrates how fast we comprehend images is this:MIT neuroscientists report that the brain can identify images seen for as little as 13 milliseconds.

That’s quicker than a blink of an eye. (The normal length of a blink is 300-400 milliseconds)

The human brain is able to recognize a familiar object within 100 milliseconds. People tend to recognize familiar faces within 380 milliseconds, which is pretty speedy....

Meet Dadaviz: Curated, YouTube-Style Distribution Platform for Data Visualizations

Meet Dadaviz: Curated, YouTube-Style Distribution Platform for Data Visualizations | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

“If I read news without dataviz I get a bit nauseous, I don’t have patience for words alone anymore. Nor infographics”. This helps explain why marketing expert and consultant León Markovitz co-founded Dadaviz, nicknamed by some as “the YouTube of data visualizations“. Online since June 11th, it’s a collection of the best dataviz selected from different sources by an invite-only community.

Want to learn the Who’s Who of political relationships in the Middle East, what’s the average commute time in the U.S. or where do the visitors of the Oktoberfest come from? This is the place to go.

Most of the published material is “curated” from external sources (the Middle East dataviz was taken from the Economist), but there’s also a certain amount of original work. Every visualization shared on Dadaviz links to the author, original link and data source, when available, so people can find out more and get more context if they wish. If someone wants to use a dataviz, they can reach directly the creators, or type “/embed” at the end of any Dadaviz link -which gives them an embed of the image with all the attribution already in place. Or they can simply share it on social media....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Dadaviz is an awesome resource for anyone looking to add visuals to their content, marketing or communications. Highly recommended.   9.5/10

6 Ways to Adopt Visual Storytelling into Your 2015 PR Strategy

6 Ways to Adopt Visual Storytelling into Your 2015 PR Strategy | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Results of the second annual PR Newswire/PR News Survey are in and they are both stunning and unremarkable.  Stunning: more than half of those surveyed say less than 5% of their external communications are delivered via video, which, given all we know now, makes me feel like we’re not paying attention.  If just one minute of video communicates the equivalent of 1.8 million words of text and video is shared 1200% more than links and text combined, then why are so many of us still on the sidelines?

Unremarkable:  less than 5% of overall PR budgets of those surveyed are devoted to video content.  I mean, yeah, duh.  That’s self-evident.  If there’s no money in the kitty earmarked for visual content, then none will be  created.  But we have to do something about that, because visual content is what our audiences expect.  It’s what they’re consuming on their phones, their tablets and their computers.  Staying in step with audience preferences when it comes to content type is something PR can’t overlook.

This article discusses the seven ways to have the perfect content in a photo on social networks. The first of the seven ways is that one picture will not always work on every form of social media. Images with certain colors have different reactions on different mediums of social media. The next way to have the perfect content in a photo on social networks is to make the photo personal. Pictures that trigger emotions catch the viewers. The third way is to embrace the text. This means that a company should try to include text on the image. The fourth way is to use action shots. Show “what is happening now, or what will be happening soon”. The fifth way is to include not only images in posts, but also GIFs. The sixth way is to make sure you include images that you find from other websites. And lastly, use multiple images.

Recently I believe that more companies are trying to steer away from wordy posts on social media. This article would be really helpful for companies who are new to posting pictures online. Because viewers scroll quickly through their social media feeds, it is important to have posts that are eye catching. This article gives companies a checklist of effective images to have on their social medias.

Great article scooped by Jeff Domansky on top tips for creating images for your social content. One tip in particular resonated with me - the psychology of colours ; it is noted in the article that red/orange images receive double the amount of clicks as blue/green images on social media channels. Something worth bearing in mind if you want to optimise your engagement with fans/followers on social media through images. Another good tip related to including text on images to drive your brand's message home and including some text in larger font than others for emphasis -  a great iOS app for doing this is Wordswag.

Visual Content: The Key to Effective Brand Storytelling

Visual Content: The Key to Effective Brand Storytelling | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...In his book Visual Impact Visual Teaching, Timothy Gangwer cites evidence that 90 percent of all data that the brain processes is visual. Additionally, it’s commonly held that 65 percent of people are visual learners, and the human brain purportedly processes visualization 60,000 times faster that it does written content.

However, when you think about it, the fact that we are visual learners first and foremost makes perfect sense from an evolutionary standpoint. Human beings were able to articulate thoughts through visuals long before the invention of the written word. People love visual content, and the more enriching the content, the deeper and more impactful the impression that your content will make. Additionally, given the fact that your average user will only give you about 10 to 20 seconds worth of a page visit to make an impact with your content, it follows that you had best make every single solitary second count.

But don’t take my word for it. In fact, don’t even take the word of these scientists, with all their “super-sciency-sounding” percentages and numbers. Let’s listen to the people themselves....

Jeff Domansky's insight:
