10 Tools to Build your Own Chatbots

10 Tools to Build your Own Chatbots | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

While making a robot sounds complicated for most people, creating a chatbot is way, way easier. The term chatbot stands for an Artifical Intelligence (AI) that automatically chats with internet users, and answers the questions they ask.

A chatbot can function in many different ways. Depending on its type, a chatbot can talk to you or provide customer service, tell you what the current weather, and even contest parking tickets (successfully). For businesses, chatbots could respond to a customer’s question and help you do your job.

The question now is where do you get or how do you create a chatbot? Well, these are the chatbot creator apps out there you can try. Most of them don’t require programming knowledge to use....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

No chatbots were harmed in making this post but you can make your own with some of these DIY chatbot tools. Thanks to Ana Cristina Pratas for the tip.

Augmented Reality Examples: How Fashion & Retail Are Using It

Augmented Reality Examples: How Fashion & Retail Are Using It | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it
Pokémon Go is officially a phenomenon which has everyone – both young and old – using their smartphones to engage in good old-fashioned scavenger hunts for colorful creatures who seemingly inhabit the world around us. But this isn’t your grandparents folksy rummage through parks and backyards. Instead, Pokémon Go is but the latest advancement in the augmented reality space, which relies on smartphone amenities like location tracking and cameras to give players a digital escape without being confined to one’s home – like in the case of interacting with next-generation consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

While AR is getting all sorts of press for its applications as it relates to gaming, the fashion and retail industries were some of the first using the cutting-edge technology.

Look no further than these five cases.
Jeff Domansky's insight:

Very interesting look at how retailers are using augmented reality.

The voice search explosion and how it will change local search

The voice search explosion and how it will change local search | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Since I noted Timothy Tuttle of Mindmeld’s LSA16 comments about the sudden increase in the volume of voice search queries, I’ve noticed an increasing number of articles on the subject. If the attention being given voice search is an indication of its anticipated impact on the marketplace, then it’s going to be a big deal.

The potential for voice search to become a major search medium is well illustrated by the number of slides Mary Meeker devotes to the topic in her annual Internet Trends report that was just released this month. Out of 213 slides, Mary included 23 slides on voice search. And while the numbers on voice search growth vary quite widely, they all agree on one trend: explosive growth.

Explosive growth and the reason behind itAt LSA 16, Tuttle shared that within one year (last year), the use of voice search went from a statistical zero to 10 percent of all search volume. That was huge.

Yet more recent numbers show that growth accelerating — Google announced at I/O that 20 percent of all searches have voice intent, while Meeker’s charts show that in May 2016, 25 percent of searches on Windows 10 taskbar are voice searches....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Voice search usage is seeing unprecedented growth, with personal assistant devices leading the way. Columnist Wesley Young explores why this new medium is taking off, how it differs from keyword searches, and the challenges for local businesses to compete on yet another platform.

Meet the artificially intelligent sales gorilla that closes deals faster

Meet the artificially intelligent sales gorilla that closes deals faster | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

By now, every business knows it has to be smart in its online strategy. Gone are the vanity metrics of yesteryear, with numbers of downloads, visitors, and the like. Now it’s all about user engagement, customer loyalty, and business results.

This startup based in Singapore and India is using AI to automate a lot of what goes into generating sales leads and acting on them fast.

More and more sophisticated tools are coming into the market to help with tracking what’s actionable that really matters to the business. Conversion rate optimization, funnel analysis, real time heat maps, abandoned cart recovery, sales lead generation – there are tech tools for all that and more. The trouble is many businesses are just not equipped to derive insights from these tools or act on them. Small and medium businesses (SMBs) especially can’t afford to hire high caliber data scientists to make the best use of the tools for customer retention or sales closure.

That’s where Lucep comes in. This startup based in Singapore and India is using artificial intelligence (AI) to automate a lot of what goes into generating leads and then acting on them fast. Sales Gorilla is the name of its AI engine behind the Lucep app....

15 Startups Not Named Magic Leap Raising AR/VR Mega-Rounds

15 Startups Not Named Magic Leap Raising AR/VR Mega-Rounds | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The funding landscape in AR/VR has been defined by large rounds to the exceptionally well-funded Florida-based startup Magic Leap, which has raised nearly $1.4B in venture funding. After raising massive Series B ($542M) and Series C ($780M) rounds, the stealth AR company’s financings tend to distort industry funding trends.

To identify well-capitalized AR/VR startups that aren’t named Magic Leap, we used CB Insights data to see which companies are raising big financing rounds and building war chests to help build out the AR/VR ecosystem, which some theorize could become the next major computing platform.

Topping the list of big AR/VR rounds was Laguna Beach, California-based NextVR, which focuses on virtual reality broadcasts of live events. NextVR recently raised an $80M Series B round.

The next biggest deal went to Palo Alto-based cinematic VR platform Jaunt. The company raised a $65M Series C in September of 2015.

In third was UK-based Blippar, which produces a mobile AR visual search app. Blippar last raised a $54M Series D in March of 2016.

Jeff Domansky's insight:

CB insights always has valuable perspectives on venture capital, startups, disruptors and industries ready to grow. This report looks at 15 startups in the artificial reality/virtual reality space and it's fascinating.

Why and how chatbots will dominate social media

Why and how chatbots will dominate social media | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Robots, though more specifically virtual robots or chatbots powered by artificial intelligence (AI), are transforming the way brands do business with their customers. Domino’s was one of the first companies to dabble in AI, allowing customers to order pizza by tweeting a pizza emoji to @Dominos. On the backend, a bot scans to confirm the tweet was not a hoax and processes the order.

More recently, Taco Bell unveiled its TacoBot within the Slack messaging platform that allows busy workers to chat with a bot to order a taco. And at Facebook’s F8, 1-800-Flowers, CNN, Spring — a retail shopping startup — and others released chatbots for Facebook Messenger. These bots offer new ways to shop, make purchases, read the news and more within the Facebook platform.

While all this sounds exciting, what does it actually mean for consumers, and what’s to become of the “humans” on social media?...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Hello, my name is Jeff and I'll be your chatbot tonight. What's on the horizon for chatbots?

Robots will take over most jobs in the world by 2045 - The Economic Times

Robots will take over most jobs in the world by 2045 - The Economic Times | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

As we reach the middle of the 21st century, half the population of the world will lose their job to a machine. Yes, this is another 'robots will take our jobs ' story.

The latest comes from Moshe Vardi, professor at Rice University , Houston, who delivered a talk to the American Association for the Advancement of Science , exploring the question: "If machines are capable of doing almost any work humans can do, what will humans do?"

Future belongs to the machines
Vardi reckons that half of workers across the globe will be replaced by machines within the next 30 years, wiping out middle-class jobs and "exacerbating inequality". He noted that robots would take over in many spheres of life, including automated driving and sex robots. As the Guardian reports, he also observed that this future is likely to mean humans have much more leisure time — indeed we may only work a handful of hours per week....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

So once on the disruption is done, we won't have to worry about disruption anymore, will we?

Artificial intelligence is changing SEO faster than you think

Artificial intelligence is changing SEO faster than you think | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

By now everyone has heard of Google’s RankBrain, the new artificial intelligence machine learning algorithm that is supposed to be the latest and greatest from Mountain View, Calif. What many of you might not realize, however, is just how fast the SEO industry is changing because of it. In this article, I’ll take you through some clear examples of how some of the old rules of SEO no longer apply, and what steps you can take to stay ahead of the curve in order to continue to provide successful SEO campaigns for your businesses.

So what is artificial intelligence?

There are generally three different classifications of artificial intelligence:

  • Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI): This is like AI for one particular thing (e.g. beating the world champion in chess).
  • Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): This is when the AI can perform all things. Once an AI can perform like a human, we consider it AGI.
  • Artificial Superintelligence (ASI): AI on a much higher level for all things (e.g. beyond the capabilities of a single human)....
Jeff Domansky's insight:

John Rampton offers a useful intro to artificial intelligence in this post.
