Truth Lets You Send Anonymous Texts | TechCrunch

Truth Lets You Send Anonymous Texts | TechCrunch | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

...Over the last few days I’ve been playing with Truth, a similar app for iOS that lets you send anonymous text messages to people in your phone’s contacts.

The interface is a close facsimile of Apple’s default Messages app, so there isn’t much of a learning curve. There is a bit of friction to get started with the app, however: besides the expected popups asking for permission to access your contacts, Truth also makes you register with an email address and password.

...That quibble with the setup process aside, Truth works as advertised. You can choose any contact in your address book to send an anonymous text, and in several tests, messages arrive in about as much time as they would via a regular text. Messages begin with “The truth is” by default, which is meant to inspire compliments or hard truths that might be too awkward to express openly....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Just thinking of the challenges and potential for abuse of such a tool and yet maybe useful for politicians LOL...

The Top 3 Free Online Tools to Manage your Social Media Marketing - Social Hiccup | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Social media marketing doesn’t need to be a million piece puzzle; in fact, to assume that the miniature of any marketing is static in the modern sense is a sure fire way to de-rank and undervalue any contribution your campaigns may be making to your bottom line. Online media is one of those do or die industries, where twenty four hours can change everything you know about the realm, marking roles as redundant or secondary the moment an algorithm change sweeps through.

Minimising costs becomes a priority, as more and more tools are launched onto the market and you’re caught between signing away a few thousand dollars a month to measure metrics essential to retaining clients; suddenly, your tabulated figures and marginal financial increases don’t seem quite as exciting....

Photoshop alternatives | Use free photo-editing software to achieve complex effects

Photoshop alternatives | Use free photo-editing software to achieve complex effects | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Adobe’s Photoshop is the gold standard when it comes to photo-editing software – the preferred tool for many graphic designers and photographers. But many of the complex features that once only a Photoshop pro could do, can now be achieved using basic, free software that comes with your computer or downloaded from the Web. Think cropping, resizing, color adjustments, filters, red-eye removal, and automatic enhancements.

In fact, a lot of useful photo-editing features are built into online photo-sharing sites like Google+ and Flickr. However, what if you want to quickly apply one or two effects without having to become a Photoshop guru? We’ve found and tested a few online alternatives that won’t require you to fire up any photo-editing apps....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

These are really useful tools for bloggers, web writers and other content producers.

Third-Party Apps That Are Better Than the Official Counterparts

Services like Twitter, Dropbox, YouTube, or Wikipedia love to release official apps for their services. More often than not, third-party developers swoop in to make better apps to access those services than the official ones. We want to collect together the best of those apps.

Third-party apps are often some of our favorites and in some respects, blow the official app away. Twitter is a perfect example of when the official apps are rarely even worth mentioning when the third-party ones are so much better. So, let's figure out which apps are truly the best....

What Is Snapchat?

What Is Snapchat? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

A primer on the photosharing service that Facebook reportedly offered to buy for $3 billion.

.... How does Snapchat actually work?

Once you've found your friends on Snapchat, you can simply start taking pictures and sending them out to as many friends as you want. The app has a couple of distinguishing features in terms of photo taking. One, users can draw on their photos. So that's funny sometimes. Two, you can caption any photo. Three, you get to set how long — from 1-10 seconds — the photograph will be visible to receivers. Crucially, too, the app tells you when your snaps are opened by the receiver. You know they saw it....

The new trend: small talk and short attention spans.

Henry Lee's curator insight, March 16, 2015 8:59 PM

Basically Snapchat enables people to send pictures or videos, which self-destruct, to people in their network. I believe this type of app is ideal for sharing sensitive information. For example, Kim and Vi have proposed a social media learning strategy for medical residents that may contain highly sensitive PII information. Snapchat may be the perfect tool to support this learning strategy aside from building an entirely new information sharing program.

MixBit, The New App From YouTube's Founders, Aims To Turn Everyone Into A Filmmaker

MixBit, The New App From YouTube's Founders, Aims To Turn Everyone Into A Filmmaker | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

With YouTube Chad Hurley and Steve Chen made publishing videos easy. Now they want to make it just as easy to create them. When Google wanted to boost the quality of YouTube’s content, it gave out $5 million in grants to select creators. YouTube cofounders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, who sold the service to Google in 2006, are now tackling the same problem, but with a different philosophy.

They hope that a new app they are launching on Thursday, called MixBit, will make shooting quality video scalable and accessible to everyone.“Unfortunately I think YouTube is going down the route of rewarding the select few around content creation, be it with partnerships or with ways of funding original content,” Hurley told Fast Company. “I can understand, it’s great to stimulate the community and make money available to them. But I feel that’s a more traditional approach to solving the problem. It’s basically replicating the studio model...I’m looking for something that doesn’t necessarily alienate any group of people, but gives them all equal access.

”That apparently includes people who never shoot any video. With MixBit, as with Instagram video and Vine, users touch their phones’ screens to take multiple video clips that the app combines into one video. But only MixBit allows other people to use those clips, if they’re public, in their own videos....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Video disruption or video democracy ahead? Interesting new tool.
