Screencast-O-Matic - A Great Tool for Creating Screencast Videos | Richard Byrne

Screencast-O-Matic - A Great Tool for Creating Screencast Videos | Richard Byrne | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Over the last few weeks I have published a bunch of how-to videos like this one about creating stop motion movies. I've had at least a handful of people ask me in emails or Tweets about the tool that I use to create those videos. I use Screencast-O-Matic to create my screencast videos.

Screencast-O-Matic is available in a free version and a pro version. The free version allows you to record for up to fifteen minutes at a time (that is plenty of time for most screencasts), publish to YouTube in HD, and save videos to your computer as MP4, AVI, and FLV files. The pro version ($15/year) includes video editing tools, unlimited recording lengths, a script tool, and removal of the Screencast-O-Matic watermark.

Both versions of Screencast-O-Matic include a highlighted circle around your cursor so that viewers can easily follow your movements on the screen. A webcam recording option is included in the free and pro versions of Screencast-O-Matic....

This is a cool video tool worth exploring for everyone from teachers and bloggers to PR, marketers and content marketing pros.

You Tube for content marketing

You Tube for content marketing | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Let’s talk about You Tube for content marketing purposes. As much as I dislike video I still do it, and there are some people that say You Tube is the new TV… heck I even have a weekly social media hangout, so I totally get why you need  to be video marketing.

In case you’re not aware… YouTube is owned by Google and videos appear high in search results. So if you’re struggling to get on the front page of Google for a competitive phrase then video will help.

YouTube is better than TV because it’s free and user-driven. This is an extremely valuable tool for spreading brand awareness online. Next to blogging, You Tube has a low cost to entry in some instances (like blogging), all you need is a web cam, a script and a You Tube Channel....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Why wouldn't you want to use video to get better social marketing results?

He went on to argue that the potential of video should not be measured solely by the quantity of traffic it generates; the quality of the interactions is also key. According to Adobe’s State of Online Advertising consumer research in 2013, 67% of consumers think “a video is worth 1,000 words”. So many views!I know, pretty exciting hey? Now, if you’re like most marketers, you think, “YES! My video marketing is kick ass!” and then you start practicing Markie award thank-you speeches in your bathroom mirror.

But I want to ask you a question that has probably already crossed your mind. That tiny voice in the back of your head has surely whispered it, or your CMO has hinted, but I’m flat out just going to ask: So what?

Where did these mysterious views come from? Who is watching your videos? And, as every marketer should question, are these viewers part of your target audience contributing to ROI, or are they just randoms who landed on your content after watching 20 videos of a chihuahua doing yoga?...

Product Strategy: Pictures Are Worth a Million Words

Product Strategy: Pictures Are Worth a Million Words | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Why don't more businesses use pictures or videos to explain their products when they can make things so much easier to understand?

I recently purchased a great coffee maker, the Nespresso. Sometimes when you get a product like this, you pull it out of the box and consider skipping the instructions all together given how long it might take to read the four point type, right?

But wow, what a pleasant surprise, the Nespresso manual was...you guessed it...made up of pictures! It took no time for us to be sipping some fine espresso out of our new green machine. They've also got a great section right on their website called, "You have just bought a Nespresso machine", with content dedicated to the first use of your machine, troubleshooting, and how to register for the Nespresso club. It's super visual as well....

How Creating an Emotional Response Helps Drive Action With Video

How Creating an Emotional Response Helps Drive Action With Video | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

After watching your videos, your audience should feel something. You don't need to be controversial, but you do need to elicit emotion to inspire your viewers into action....

While some content lends itself to emotion more easily than others (a whiteboard video might not be “emotional” in the traditional sense), your content is far more likely to inspire downloads, trials, demos, etc. if it elicits a powerful response fuelling your prospects’ follow through.

And remember, at the end of the day, “emotional” or inspiring content is simply stuff that makes you feel something. It doesn’t really matter if your audience is laughing or crying at the end of your video, but they better be feeling something or you’ll be easily forgotten or skipped over. Ultimately, if your on-screen personas, comedy, or message gets people to like the implied character of your brand, you’ve got the right idea....

If a Picture is Worth 1,000 Words, What’s the Value of a Video in Marketing? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Use and apply videos to improve your existing marketing campaigns to build a conversation with your customers

Websites and marketing campaigns often rely on text and graphics; however, relying on too much of any one ingredient is a recipe for disaster. While graphics convey information succinctly, and text explains and elaborates, adding video to the mix is a way to reach customers who absorb information visually and tune out when they see too much text.

According to Insivia, on average, viewers retain 95 percent of information if they watch it it, but only 10 percent of the when they read it.

If a customer doesn’t hear or understand your message, your chances of converting them are slim. For many companies, conversion rates increased after adding videos to their campaigns. PowToon found start-ups and small businesses that used videos saw a conversion rate increase an average of 40 percent. Additionally, start-ups saw email sign-ups increase 67 percent....

YouTube vs. Vimeo: Which Is Better for B2B Marketing?

YouTube vs. Vimeo: Which Is Better for B2B Marketing? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Here are the pros & cons of each, as well as factors B2B marketers should consider for their video content marketing strategies!...

Your audience should be as wide as possible, but B2B companies should have targets in mind – namely, other businesses. What kind of site will attract your target organizations? YouTube unquestionably provides an opportunity for broader viewership with top brands averaging 884,000 monthly views. Although Vimeo draws fewer sets of eyes, you have less competition, so it may be the more appropriate outlet, depending on your industry.

In terms of quality and production value, Vimeo may have the leg up. Its more refined vibe and approach to video hosting can be more appealing to professionals, a definite positive for B2B outreach. YouTube’s limit on video length is problematic for longer demos, but in the B2B marketing world, the average effective video lasts just 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Fully customizing your account may be more valuable than high resolution and unlimited duration....

What on earth is interactive video? - Kiosked | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Brands can inform, market, help and educate with their online videos and STUDIES show that people who watch videos of brands online are 60% more likely to make a purchase decision. But the possibilities of online video don’t stop there. Think online, think visual, think video and think what if you could do more than just watch the video. That’s it, right there you have interactive video.

Interactive video has been on the RISE lately: digital ads that feature some kind of interactivity leapt from only 2% in January 2013 to 11% in June. Naturally it doesn’t stop there and the numbers are expected to double next year. Forrester defines interactive video as “A type of digital video supporting user interaction through gestures, voice, touch and clicks”.

Let’s pause here because this has huge implications. Consumers can watch branded content and engage with contextually relevant interactive elements. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words but what are those thousand words against 1.8m impressions that one minute of online video generates?...

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Interactive video has marketers' attention, but what is it? Get the picture?
