Kooaba Leapfrogs QR Codes with Shortcut App

Zurich-based startup Kooaba is out to replace QR Codes with a mobile app called Shortcut, an updated of an app it formerly called Paperboy.

Why should marketers consider a shortcut to quick response codes? “We believe QR codes are belonging to an intermediate technology used for things it was never meant for," wrote Tom Desmet in a company blog post. "Despite the enormous media attention QR is getting, it still is not at a level where people are really using it.”...

Ponderings – What 3 Social Media Analytic Tools Can’t You Live Without?

Ponderings – What 3 Social Media Analytic Tools Can’t You Live Without? | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Ah analytics, I love them. I take all numbers with a grain of salt but it is nice to see if your efforts are paying off and what things people share or inspire a click. For example, a recent popular tweet, based on number of clicks, was a tweet about Klout with 177 clicks – clearly my followers are interested in Klout.

Some tools allow you to see who has unfollowed you and who your new followers are or even help you find new people to follow. I also find it nice to know who my biggest retweeters or mentioners were for the week and acknowledge them. I am glad I picked this question, because I have some seriously smart friends answering and they had a few surprises for me....

Instead of dispatching a camera crew to a fire during rush hour and risk they won't get there until after the flame is out, a television news reporter can create an assignment from Rawporter's Web interface and send it to anyone with the app who may be in the area of the fire....

Reportr.net » How to choose the best social media tools for journalism

The wealth of multimedia or social media storytelling tools available can be bewildering for journalists. Often seasoned pros asked me, what is the one thing I should learn and add to my reporting toolkit?

To my mind, that’s the right attitude but the wrong question. Journalists need to be open to new ways of telling stories and engaging with audiences. But it is not about adding a new tool to your reporting repertoire.

Instead it is about figuring out how to rethink reporting to ensure it remains compelling, relevant and impactful....
