25 Mouth Watering Website Designs | inspirationfeed.com

25 Mouth Watering Website Designs | inspirationfeed.com | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Inspiration plays an important role in the web design process. Keeping up and checking out the latest trends is a great way to see what is working and what you should avoid.

The most vital part of the website, along with functionality, is the way it looks. The 1990′s are over, meaning ugly websites should not even exist. Let’s face the truth, people judge by looks all the time. You think a cute girl, or guy for the women, isn’t going to get noticed as soon as he/she enters an overcrowded Starbucks? I’ll let you figure that out yourself…

Presenting a beautiful website to a first time visitor will make them stop for a second and say, “Wow, this site is pretty sexy!” Why look foul when you can look good? Focusing on designing a gorgeous website for any niche/industry is totally worth it, especially if it’s your brand.

Today we collected twenty-five outstanding web designs that will make any designed drool. Enjoy!...

Here's some creativity with your coffee along with some design inspiration.

For large companies and multinational corporations, rebranding can be a slippery slope. Design trends change with time, so logos often need to be revisited to keep a company’s brand fresh. Because a good logo is so iconic, companies must strike a balance between contemporizing their brand while staying true to the original design.

The following are 5 logo redesigns that divided audiences and stirred up no shortage of controversy....

The Problem With "Design Thinking" Is I Still Don't Know What It Is | ZURB

The Problem With "Design Thinking" Is I Still Don't Know What It Is | ZURB | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Design is hot. Design executives are being tasked with being design driven, but don't have the tools or processes to sustain this effort.

... In some ways, designers and design managers have shot themselves in the foot — design thinking neither negates nor replaces the need for smart designers doing the work. And because design thinking has many paths through parallel phases, it seems fuzzy compared to the process of creating code. Compared to analytical thinking or science, our industry still doesn't have a consensus on what design thinking means. Most designers couldn't tell you what it means

.It's been 20 years since I was ingrained with the concept that the designer mind could think much differently than a marketer, engineer or the guy in a suit-and-tie. Yet, for all its power and inspiration, I still don't completely understand the meaning of design thinking.

Should we abandon the concept? Absolutely not. I use the methods and ideas that it espouses daily. I believe we just lack some of the tools necessary for the practical application of these methods to stick within organizations....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Fresh thinking about "design thinking" in this very thoughtful post from ZURB.

25 Must-Have Free Fonts for Entrepreneurs and Designers

25 Must-Have Free Fonts for Entrepreneurs and Designers | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Great fonts (like most excellent things on the Internet) are generally handcrafted by independent designers. Making a font takes an incredible amount of effort, which is usually reflected in the price tag. On rare occasions, though, kind and generous designers will give out a few fonts for free, as a way of advertising the rest of their collection. If you like any of the fonts below, please consider supporting their creators.

I’ve compiled the following list of 25 must-have free fonts for entrepreneurs, designers and anyone else looking to impress. Enjoy!...

Why Every Media Website Redesign Looks the Same

Why Every Media Website Redesign Looks the Same | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

The media website you keep seeing again -- and again, and again...

Responsive design is still a new concept that is changing as designers and developers figure new ways to marry form and multi-function. Dan Mall, founder of web design firm SuperFriendly, noted that while responsive design is only about four years old, many of the programs being used to build new site are much olderz.“

I think there are really great tools that are coming out, but I think that we as an industry are still wrapping our heads around what it means to design for different context,” Mall said. “I think as the tools become more intuitive and the process becomes more intuitive, it will free us up to start thinking about these things in different ways.”

The designers that Mashable spoke with pointed to a variety of sites as examples of forward-thinking responsive websites, including blog publishing platform Medium, gaming site Polygon and digital magazine The Great Discontent....

How To Use Psychology In Landing Page Design

How To Use Psychology In Landing Page Design | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Decisions, decisions, decisions!  Every day we are faced with a constant series of decisions.  Whether it is deciding to eat that piece of cake, or make a career change, the decisions we make shape our lives and who we are.

We like to think that all of our decisions are rational and that we are in control, however our unconscious mind, drives how we respond to advertising, brands, products, and in the end determines all of our buying decision. As a result, our landing page design plays an integral role in how our brains make a decision to buy a product or not.   The reasons unconscious triggers determine our decisions can be found in the structure of our brain. We can break our mind into three separate parts....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

Designing with psychology? When it comes to landing pages, they can work together.

6 free visual marketing tools

6 free visual marketing tools | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

This lack of artistic ability poses a threat to my marketing career, especially now that visual content marketing is the ticket to success. Even though I have other creative traits, I'm worried I'll get left in the visual storytelling dust.

I know I'm not alone.

Luckily, we non-artists have a few tools to mask our lack of design talent.

These tools are free, but often have advanced paid features for when you're ready to step up your game. They don't replace a designer's expertise, but you can use them for smaller projects, like blogs, social media graphics, or Slideshare templates....

As someone who has prepared several media kits for different blogs as well as working on behalf of a brand receiving them I’ve seen a fair few over the last few years. Although there is no wrong way to prepare a Media Kit (hey, the fact you have one means you are on the right path) there are a few things that the strongest ones have in common.

In a nutshell:A great media kit requires fully understanding what your blog is about as well as what your blog can offer the brand or PR you are pitching to.

Then you compile stats and case studies to back what you are saying up and present it in a visually appealing package.Sound good? Let’s walk through it....

Gorgeous Typographic Covers For 26 Classic Books

Gorgeous Typographic Covers For 26 Classic Books | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

In September 2009, type designer Jessica Hische started what would become a wildly popular personal project: Daily Drop Caps, in which she intricately illustrated a decorative letter every day and uploaded it to her blog. Her lettering style modernizes an age-old typographic tradition: a drop cap is the single large letter that starts a book chapter, often seen in sacred texts or early editions of classic literature. The artform dates back to 2,000-year-old illuminated manuscripts.

Jessica Hische will debate the merits of algorithmic design at the 2014 Innovation by Design Conference, Wednesday, October 15, at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York. Sign up today!

In collaboration with Penguin art director Paul Buckley, Hische has applied her colorful, ornate drop cap lettering to 26 book covers for classic works of literature and poetry--one for each letter of the alphabet. The Penguin Drop Caps series features bright jewels of book covers, each with an illustration of the first letter of the author’s last name, starting with Austen, Bronte, and Cather. The last batch of letters--X, Y, and Z for Xinran, Yeats, and Zafron--has just been released....

The Next Big Thing In Responsive Design | Fast Company | Public Relations & Social Marketing Insight | Scoop.it

Responsive design, which allows designers and developers to build websites that adapt to every screen size, is one of the most empowering web tools to be adopted in the last decade.

But adapting to the screen is only the first frontier of a new, responsive web. Today, users expect online experiences that not only respond to what device they're using, but also their location, time of day, what they’ve already read, and events happening in real time.

To capture a user’s attention for the next generation of the web, you’ll need more than just responsive design. You’ll need a responsive philosophy....

Jeff Domansky's insight:

What's a responsive philosophy like you doing in a place like this? Just kidding. But it is a good question ponder when thinking about the future of responsive web design.

...Having a style guide for reference is especially important if you are passing off a CMS to a client who will be using it to create content on a regular basis. Without a guide your client may go nuts with customization features that may be built into the theme. The beautiful website you created can end up looking like digital goulash in the end, which is no good for your portfolio.
