Hamstring injuries are the bane of athletes in every sport that requires open-field running. While preventive programs, such as the FIFA 11+ protocols, have shown some efficacy at reducing their frequency, hamstring injuries remain the most common ailment in baseball, football and soccer, most of which require sizable absences and feature high recurrence rates. Artificial intelligence could help. Orreco and its newly assembled, dozen-member Motion Data Collective is touting new proprietary machine learning algorithms that it says can identify 85% of hamstring injuries in elite male soccer players with 86% specificity.
