“Just over a year ago, a group of friends from Arcola found a typical game of war transformed into a dramatic rescue of one of their own, resulting in six young men receiving Certificates of Commendation from the Governor General of Canada for “an act of great merit in providing assistance to others in a selfless manner in Arcola, Saskatchewan, on September 12, 2014….”

“IT’S NOT ALWAYS EASY TO TELL: This past weekend, we got called out to a report of two men with guns outside an elementary school. We arrived and spotted one person with a black handgun. He held tight to the gun and jumped behind a brick column when he spotted us. Then, we saw the other person, standing father back with two guns at his feet.
This dynamic situation had the very real potential to escalate to a use of deadly force. Fortunately, our officers skillfully controlled and de-escalated this situation and safely got these two people to come out without the weapons. The two involved turned out to be juveniles and their weapons turned out to be Airsoft guns, The gun held in the hand of one of the young men had its bright orange tip colored over with black marker.
We ask you to carefully consider choosing a replica gun as a toy for your child or teen. We ask you to educate your children about the purpose of that bright orange marking and let them know it should never be altered. We ask you to talk to your kids about the very real dangers of pointing a weapon at people, even a fake weapon. This scenario could have resulted in a terrible tragedy. Instead, please help us turn this into a teaching moment.

“…On December 16, 2010, Royahent Gomez Eriza, who was 13 at the time, was playing with two friends in the street in Glassell Park when two LAPD officers saw them while on patrol. According to the police account, the officer thought Gomez Eriza was an adult and was not able to tell his Airsoft gun, which had an orange tip, was only a replica. One of the officers shot Gomez Eriza and the bullet shattered his vertebrae, making him paralyzed from the chest down….”

“PLYMOUTH, Calif. (KCRA) —Ten-year-old Owen is no stranger to airsoft pistols. He’s knows what they look like, feel like, and how to shoot.

But Sunday afternoon while at an airsoft shooting field in Plymouth, he picked up what he thought was an airsoft pistol.

““These results demonstrate that air guns can cause severe, yet preventable, eye injury among the pediatric population,” explained Dr. Douglas Fredrick. “To reduce rates of pediatric eye injury, both practitioners and air gun companies should promote and lobby for eye safety mandates among all air gun users. Furthermore, changes in state policy to regulate possession and usage of air guns among minors may be warranted to reduce rates of accidental injury.””

The student brought the replica into the district workspace. It was left wrapped in paper in a corner of the workspace when a teacher saw it and unwrapped it….”

“Last December one of our local players from our home field was the Lucky raffle winner of a Beretta M9 pistol donated by red tactical airsoft for a Toys For Tots event the Iron Tigers hosted, the winner couldn’t have been a better kid and shortly after owning the pistol it was unfortunately stolen at the field one day. It weighed on us to see the great kid so down about having his pistol stolen that members of the Iron Tigers pitched in to make light of the situation and went together with the help of Red Tactical and got him a brand new Elite Force 1911 with his name engraved in the pistol plus an extra mag. I am proud of the caliber of players we have on the team and pulling together to make this happen. Our team trains hard but when scouting New members we don’t look for the best skilled players we look for the right ones that mesh well with this crazy family.

“…Police said officers ordered the teens to drop their weapons and two of them complied, but one did not. The teen fled and was later seen hiding in nearby brush with his weapon pointed at officers.
One officer saw the teen from a distance and drew his weapon while telling the teen to drop the gun.

“[The teen] bent his knees and then raised the weapon up,” Greco said.  Once the weapon cleared the grass, officers were able to see the orange tip….”

“Have the new, younger airsoft players at your local field made the sport less enjoyable?
