Ah, the “scroll of death” – that processes we’ve all been through of logging into your LMS some weeks into the academic calendar, and becoming painfully aware of how much you are spinning the mouse wheel to find the week’s content. But did you know that Moodle offers several alternatives to prevent this?

At moodlefacts.nl, the Dutch blog of Moodle services provider in Belgium and The Netherlands provider, Avetica, we found a compilation worth checking out and updating. We will also review the navigation improvements the “Boost” theme brought to Moodle 3.2 in regards to this preventable ailment on LMSs.

He has created Surveypro, which merges and expands on both activities with custom question types, validation, mandatory questions, conditional branching, backup and exporting, among the most notable additions. Moodle plugins: Online audio recording

Moodle plugins: Online audio recording | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

Audio recorder (Flash 10.1+) submission method. Records locally and uploads via HTTP POST, so there's no need for a streaming server!

Finally putting an end to the need for a streaming server (or a Java applet) to allow students to record audio clips for Moodle assignments, the Online Audio Recording assignment uses Flash (10.1+) to record audio from a microphone, convert it to MP3 format and upload it to Moodle via HTTP POST.

How to allow students to choose a group themselves in Moodle Course? #MoodleTips - Moodle World

How to allow students to choose a group themselves in Moodle Course? #MoodleTips - Moodle World | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Have you ever thought of giving freedom of choosing the groups on their own to students in your Moodle course? This freedom can help in bringing out a good team work and collaboration among peers.

According to the Social Constructionism pedagogy – We learn particularly well from the act of creating or expressing something for others to see”. Moodle Groups allows you to create learning activities which encourages the students to work as a team to achieve a collaborative goal.

Creating a group in a Moodle course is a simple process for a teacher. However, the teacher has to either manually assign the users in the course or else they will added on a random basis. But what if you would like the students to choose their own peers in the groups?

Moodle Group choice activity plugin allows students to enrol themselves in a group within a course. It is based on the standard Choice activity in Moodle. As a teacher, you can configure the groups offered, and the most number of students allowed in each group.

How to use Moodle for paper and pencil – offline quiz?

How to use Moodle for paper and pencil – offline quiz? | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Moodle Quiz engine is one of the best among the all available learning management systems. You can customize Moodle quizzes to meet all sector specific requirements from small individual students to large universities, from STEM to language and music teaching etc. But have you ever need to use Moodle for offline quizzes?

For example, let’s assume that you want to assess large number of students on same time. Creating hardware infrastructure for such an exam can be costlier affair. What if you can take the exam offline like on paper & pencil and then grade them in Moodle? Like this you can assess a large number of students in a short span of time.

To support offline quiz, there is a Moodle plugin – “Offline Quiz“. The Offline quiz Moodle plugin adds paper-and-pencil multiple-choice quizzes to Moodle. The offline quiz plugin is developed by Academic Moodle Cooperation and is compatible with all stable Moodle versions till Moodle 3.2.

Tired of slow page loading due to high resolution images? Check out this awesome new Moodle Plugin

Tired of slow page loading due to high resolution images? Check out this awesome new Moodle Plugin | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
As a Moodle site administrator, are you always worried about the size of the images used by the course designers? Being unaware about the impact sometimes they may upload a picture taken by a good quality camera of size more than 5 Mega Pixels when they don’t need such a high-resolution. It will affect the page load time and consume more bandwidth which is crucial for students accessing your course from Mobile devices.

One way to overcome this problem is either to train all the course designers about image size and compression techniques, but they may be reluctant in following the same. The second way and highly recommended way to overcome this is to use the Image Optimizer filter plugin on your Moodle site.

Make Moodle assignment activity better by releasing the solution sheet to students after due date #moodleplugins

Make Moodle assignment activity better by releasing the solution sheet to students after due date #moodleplugins | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Have you ever thought of providing a model solution to the assignment given to the students? Generally, while teaching subjects like Mathematics and Science, the assignments are accompanied by model solutions which needs to be released to the students after they have submitted the assignment.

Today, I am going to show you a new plugin – “Solution Sheet“, which can be used by teachers to upload a model solution sheet to the assignment activity. The solution can be released manually or at a scheduled time from the assignment submission deadline. You can also specify a date from when the released solutions will be hidden, e.g., the end of term. The new Assignment Feedback type plugin – “Solution Sheet” is developed by Henning Bostelmann.

Moodle plugins: Repository File Manager

Moodle plugins: Repository File Manager | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

The primary purpose of this block is to provide file management capabilities for the 'Course files area' repository. However, this block is also capable of interfacing with the Moodle 2.x Files API to provide limited file browsing capabilities for some other repository types. It is hoped to further develop the management capabilities so that files held in other repository types can be managed through this block.

Moodle plugins: Wiki export

Moodle plugins: Wiki export | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

This plugin adds the ability to export Moodle wikis as either PDFs or epub documents.

It was developed by Davo Smith of Synergy Learning, on behalf of the Judicial Institute for Scotland

Usage

Once the plugin is installed, you can visit a wiki, then click on the new 'Export as epub' or 'Export as PDF' links that appear in the activity administration block (with javascript enabled, similar links are inserted on the top-right corner of the page).

Users with the 'mod/wiki:managewiki' capability also get a 'Sort pages for export' link, that allows them to choose the order in which pages will appear in the export.

There is an additional global setting which allows a copy of any wikis on the site to be sent (as a PDF) to a given email address, whenever they are updated (note, this will not export all wikis on the site the first time it is configured, it only sends those that have been updated since the email address was first entered).
