Changing The Learning Process

Until now, this level of personalization has been limited to small classrooms, though AI makes every classroom feel like a small one. AI systems analyze students' progress on a scale that teachers alone cannot, effectively minimizing the student-teacher ratio problem. AI systems also erase distance. Learning happens anywhere at any time.

Another benefit of AI-augmented education is that it isn't judgemental. Constructive criticism from an AI tutor can feel less intimidating than a fellow human. Students, especially the underserved, who may not be accustomed to such feedback, are likely to respond more positively to this feedback and are thus more likely to seek it out in the future. Feedback from AI systems is instantaneous and thereby extremely effective and can be acted on immediately.

Your Top 10 Genius Hour Questions Answered

Your Top 10 Genius Hour Questions Answered | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
We hear all the time about how we need to give students more choice. About how we should be helping them discover their passions, how we need more student-directed, inquiry-based learning in the classroom. But all of that can feel like a load of abstract, pie-in-the-sky hooey without practical instructions for how to actually do it. We need a structure, a format, a plan for delivering this kind of experience.

25 Ways to Create A Sticky Lesson - InformED | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
How do we create learning that lasts? It's a hard question to answer, and in some cases an even harder reality to achieve, particularly with the pressure

Beth Dichter's curator insight, June 22, 2014 10:01 PM

After describing the three phases of the learning process based on cognitive science. The first two phases:

* Students decide what to attend to.

* Students organize the information

These work with short term memory but to know the information students must also activate long term memory which may begin in class with a review but should also includes well crafted assignments.

What can you do?The post continues by exploring ways to capture a students attention and ways to help them create a framework. The final section explores how to make the lesson stick. Three examples are below (quoted from the post).

* Begin lectures with a high level question that the upcoming information can answer.

* Highlight the "unfinished" nature of each subject.

* Don't use too many types of different presentation materials at once.

Throughout the post there are links to additional resources.

I love this image. It captures it all. Beth Dichter posts great stuff on a regular basis. I am really spending some serious time inviestigating this topic of buy-in by the students by givening them more ownership .

I like the analogy of a 'sticky lesson'... something that sticks in your head. That's the aim of every lesson... get what you are teaching to stick in the learners head!

Teaching & Developing Critical Thinking

Teaching & Developing Critical Thinking | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Thinking allows connections, leads to development of new ideas.

Thinking in the right frame is valid in learning. Developing the right frame of thinking is essential in teaching.

Spread of false news, image editing and blending, audio editing, and video clipping are some common fallacy we come upon. Belief in such mistaken identities can be dangerous to individuals and societies. To bring upon awareness on such misinterpreted or misrepresented information, thinking skills need to be developed among students

Can Games Save Higher Education?

Can Games Save Higher Education? | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

In Minds on Fire: How Role Immersion Games Transform Colleges, Mark C. Carnes makes the case that they might. Students at Pace University have become so engrossed in a game called Henry VIII and the Reformation Parliament that class spills into the dorms: “students endlessly debated, gossiped, and strategized Tudor religion and politics.” At Dordt College, students playing Rousseau, Burke, and Revolution in France 1791, ask to begin class half an hour early so that they can complete the game. Every student attends the four early morning sessions.

3 significant benefits of social learning

3 significant benefits of social learning | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

Technology influences education. It’s a bit late to discuss how social media and technology may reshape learning and schools. The train has already departed and so we can observe some changes taking place. There are plenty of ways to go about it–social learning networks currently offer first class tickets to the “next-gen” learning.
