Way back in the mid-aughts there was a wave of what were called Web 2.0 tools that got me excited about using new tech tools in my classroom. Those tools gave students the ability to create cool things that were previously limited to the domain of specialists.
Today, I still get excited about tools that enable students to create cool things. The feeling of starting with an idea then turning it into something others can see and use is an empowering feeling. That’s what we can give to students when we introduce them to digital creation tools.
This week you can give your students that empowering feeling by helping them use one of the following tools to create cool things in your classroom.

"Confused about password managers? They're simpler than you might think. By Andrew Chaikivsky February 07, 2017
"If you haven’t gotten around to using a password manager yet—one of the top safety practices recommended by security experts—you’re not alone. Even Lorrie Cranor, the just-departed chief technologist at the Federal Trade Commission, who helped protect consumers from online crimes, only started using one in late 2016. “I’ve been advocating password managers for years but I’d never actually tried one,” Cranor says.
"These services can help defend against criminals by generating and storing a different password—one that's long and complicated—for each of your online accounts. But deciding which password manager to trust with the keys to your online life may seem daunting."

In a world of rapidly advancing technology it’s crucial to ensure companies and organizations are doing their best to make digital developments accessible to everyone. While browsing the internet, catching up on social media, or texting on mobile devices might seem like second nature to some, accessibility-related barriers prevent millions of people with disabilities from easily using basic forms of technology and, in some cases, even discourage them from going online.
